Virginia Mae Krause, age 90, of Escanaba passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Mid Michigan Health Center in Midland.
Virginia was born December 5, 1923 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Longhurst) Groleau. During World War II, Virginia worked for a company that made airplane parts. Virginia was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and served on the Ladies Guild for many years. Virginia found great happiness in helping others whether it be volunteering at Church or the Bishop Noa Home, inviting residents from the Sheltered Workshop to her home, or taking the time to make each of her family or extended family feel special. She lived her faith every day and the love she had for her family gave her so much joy. She will always be remembered for her smile and laughter and the kindness she showed to everyone.
Virginia is survived by five sons, Greg (Linda) of Mattawan, MI, Brian (Jean) of Midland, MI, Gerard of Humble, TX, Joel (Karlene) of Holland, MI and Kevin (Cheryl) of Cincinnati; one daughter, Karen (Tim) Hughes of Norton, VA; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Rosa Lee) Groleau of Sallisaw, OK; two sisters, Laura Trotter of Gladstone and Dolly (John) Enright of Milwaukee, WI and numerous nieces and nephews, many who remember her as their favorite aunt.
Including her husband, Floyd, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Elmer, Edward, Robert and Jack Groleau and a half sister, Eleanore Mattson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. A Vincentian Prayer Service will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. We knew Virginia at Bickford Cottage. She attended our sing-alongs on Wednesdays. She knew all the hymns. She always wore a smile, walked with a bounce, shared funny stories, and loved talking about her family and teaching experiences. We missed her when she left. Virginia was a special lady.

Virginia was a very special mother-in-law to me for 44 years. She taught me a lot about life, love, faith, and raising children. I will miss her laughter during Krause Family gatherings.
