Roger Micheau Sr., 76, of 410 Wisconsin Ave., passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2011, at his residence in Gladstone.
Roger was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Rapid River, the son of Joseph Sr. and Adelia (King) Micheau.

Roger was raised in Rapid River and graduated from the Rapid River High School.

Early in his life, Roger developed a natural love of music.

Growing up in a family of musicians, it wasn’t long before Roger joined his brothers in their family band, “The Micheau Brothers,” where he became quite an accomplished bass guitarist. He later went on to play in popular local bands such as “The Ranch Hands,” “Blue Legends,” “New Blue Legends and the “Coppertones.” Roger’s love of music continued by learning how to play the piano in his later years. Additionally, Roger was very proud to have played with professional musicians, Frankie Yankovic and Moe Bandy.

On July 26, 1973, Roger was united in marriage to the former Carol Balthazore, in Escanaba. Roger and Carol made their home and raised their family in Gladstone.

Roger was employed by Harnischfeger Corporation and enjoyed woodworking, listening to and playing music and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Carol; two sons, Gerald (Mary) Micheau of Escanaba and Daniel (Susan) Young of Gladstone; five daughters, Tammy Clough of Freesoil, Mich., Robin Micheau of Escanaba, Cathy (Robert) Druding, Sue Young, and Bonnie (Blaine) Burrell, all of Gladstone; sister, Vivian St. Cyr of Escanaba. In addition to his parents, Joseph Sr. and Adelia, Roger was preceded in death by son, Melvin Micheau; brothers, Arnold, Leon, Howard, Melvin, Gordon and Joseph Jr. Micheau; and sister, Jean Roberts.

A celebration of life, to honor Roger Micheau, will take place on Sunday, Feb. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Refreshments will be served throughout visiting hours for those in attendance. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are in care of arrangements.
