Robin Hewitt

Resided in Gladstone, MI
Died October 14, 2023

Gladstone, MI

Robin Hewitt, age 60, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at her home in Gladstone, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with ALS.

Robin was born March 23rd, 1963 in Port Huron, MI, the daughter of Howard and Marie (Canie) Sanderson. She grew up in Gladstone and was a 1981 graduate of Gladstone High School. Following graduation, Robin enrolled at The American Beauty Academy where she received her Cosmetology Certificate in 1982. Shortly after returning home from college, Robin met her love, Doug Hewitt, and together the couple were united in marriage on July 6th, 1985, at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Robin and Doug lived in Port Huron from 1987 to 1989 before once again returning to Gladstone where they made their home and raised their family. In 1994, they acquired The New Image Salon, which they owned and operated until 2020. She was a proud and successful business owner who established many wonderful friendships in her local community.

Robin loved her family, adored her grandchildren and forever missed her loving daughter, Chelsey Jo. Soon after the loss of Chelsey, Robin checked off a major accomplishment by running the Detroit Marathon in October 2003 and several half-marathons leading up to it. After two years of protesting and fighting for the safety of others, Robin spearheaded the addition of a traffic light at the intersection where Chelsey Hewitt and Tim Wotchko lost their lives. Another example of her fighting spirit is when Robin overcame cancer in 2012.

You could find Robin on her pontoon boat on her favorite summer days; be that with friends, family, her grandchildren, or just the family golden retriever, Kyle. She also loved attending concerts, outdoor festivals, and often cooked and hosted friends and family on her front porch.

Robin’s light will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. She always encouraged everyone to choose JOY.

In addition to her husband, Doug, Robin is survived by:

Sons: Ben (Tiffany) Hewitt

Sam (Savanna Stenberg) Hewitt

Brother: Morris Sanderson

Sister: Dawn Cunningham, Charron (Joe) Allsworth and

Kimmie Jo Soderman

Grandchildren: Porter, Ruby and Vincent

Mother in Law: Patricia Hewitt

Close family friend: Aunt Alice Eagle

Also surviving are many loving family members and friends.
