Richard Dennis Hansen

Resided in Escanaba, MI
Died March 14, 2021

Richard Dennis Hansen of Escanaba, MI passed away on March 14, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 11, 1951 to Francis and LaVergne (Gravelle) Hansen.

Rich was a lifelong resident of Escanaba. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1969. In October 1969 he was hired by Mead Paper.

Rich married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Kositzke on July 10, 1971 at St. Patrick’s Parish. Together they raised three children. One daughter, his pride and joy, Bobbi (Rob) McKenzie of Rapid River, MI and two sons that he was extremely proud of and never missed an opportunity to brag about: Richard “Rick” (Stacy) Hansen of Menominee, MI and Justin (Amanda) Hansen of Escanaba, MI.

Rich loved life. His grandsons were his greatest love. There was nothing he would rather do than spend time with them and he loved annoying them with his terrible jokes. He will be missed by his grandsons: Connor McKenzie, Cameron McKenzie, Austin Hansen and Gavin Hansen.

After Rich retired from Verso Paper in 2011 he purchased a Miata and enjoyed Tuesday night “drive and dines” with his wife and Miata group. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, hunting and playing cards with family and friends. Rich will be remembered as an avid Detroit Lions fan.

Rich was a member of the Eagle’s Club, USW Local 21, and an honorary member of the Polar Bear Club.

Rich is survived by 4 brothers. Francis “Porky” (Nancy) Hansen, Raymond Hansen, Donald (Sue) Hansen, Jim (Pam) Hansen, and a loving and special sister, Marilyn (Phil) Sarasin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 19 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Memorial services will follow at 5:00 PM.
