R. Kenneth (Ken) Sturdy, age 89, of Marquette, MI passed away early Monday morning, January 13, 2014, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, where he resided for the past eleven years.

Ken was born December 7, 1924, in Wells, MI, the eldest son of Clarence and Ella (Couillard) Sturdy. He was raised in Wells and attended school in Escanaba until his enlistment in the United States Army in December 1943, where he served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Throughout his enlistment, Ken received medals of accommodation including: the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the distinguished Purple Heart for his heroism. After his honorable service, Ken returned home and devoted himself to helping his father, Clarence Sturdy, establish and grow the family business, Sturdy Brother

    Ken & Carol were our closeest friends when we moved to the area and their family is as well. We send our sincerest sympathy to all of them. We regret not being with them at this time due to our being in Florida. Our prayers are with all of you.

    We visited the National World War II Museum today in honor of your father. We learned a lot about what he endured for America’s freedom. You must be very proud of him.We are sorry that we will not be there to celebrate his life.
