    Dear Nadine’s girls,

I am so sorry for your loss. I have such good memories of Nadine’s warm smile and funny laugh as we all played board games at her parent’s kitchen table in Cowen. I was a close friend of your Aunt Leian and I enjoyed good times with all the family. They welcomed all of us so warmly to their home and that wonderful porch. I’m sure Nadine has been the same with you and all of your friends and that these warm memories of her will comfort you. May God bless you.

    To Nadine’s Family

My thoughts and prayers are with you today. When I got the news today about Nadine, I had all kinds of emotions. Shock, disbelief, sadness and then memories started to come back to me. She and I had many good times together as classmates and best friends of the good “Ole” Cowen Grade School and Cowen High School. Today, as I was reading in my yearbook of all the things that she had wrote in them, I couldn’t keep from smiling and remembering all the good times we had together. Everyone who knew her will miss her and will remember her sweet smile and whole hearted laughter. She always put others before herself and thought if you looked deep enough you could find some good in everybody.

As she always signed my yearbook and as she always will be my BESTESTEST Friend!

    From Nadine’s Bestestest Friend,

    To the Brown Family,

It is with a saddened heart that I heard of Nadine’s passing. I have known Nadine since she was a very young girl living in Cowen, West Virginia. I has a close friend of her older sister, Leian, and came to know Nadine through her. I stayed many nights in the home of their parents, Joe and Jane Funkhouser. They were warm and generous people and I came to find a closeness with their youngest daughter, Nadine. Nadine had a warm and caring heart and generosity just like her parents. She was always very kind and sweet to me. I have not heard much of Nadine since she moved to Michigan but I hope that she was happy and loved. My heart goes out to all of you, her family, and I will pray that the Lord giudes and keeps you in his care. With fond memories of Nadine,

    Ashley and Danielle,

Your Momma has many, many friends and I’m glad I was one of them. She made everyone feel welcome in her home and in her heart. Your Momma’s laughter was contagious. We spent many hours reading stories and playing games with my girls when they were little. We’d fix macaroni and cheese with tuna and it was like a fancy feast. We still have the baby cradle she and her Dad made for my girls. Your Momma was a very special person and we will all miss her. We’ll keep you all in our prayers.

I grew up with Nadine in Cowen, West Virginia and we went from toddlers together at the Methodist Church to seniors together at Cowen High School. I remember slumber parties and the crazy things that girls do. I am sad to say that we lost touch after having our families, but I remember knowing that Nadine had two beautiful daughters. The things I remember most about Nadine are that she was kind and caring and her presence at any event made that event a whole lot more fun. I pray that she rest in peace.

Words cannot do justice to all the good things Nadine stood for. She was truly the type of woman everyone enjoyed being around. To know her for 5 minutes you would instantly know that her role as “momma” was truly one she cherished, and held above all other things. I can’t even tell you how many times she would come to work and say “ya’ll know what ashley went and did?” or “I gotta tell ya’ll what Danielle said, ya’ll aint gonna believe this!” and pride, omgoodness. She just beamed when she was talking about her girls. She just had such a huge capacity to love. I think that’s what drew people to her. She was a wonderful person, a great friend, and co~worker, and an unconditional momma. I’m glad to have known her, and send on my deepest sympathies to Danielle and Ashley. Your momma is still with you, in everything you do. Your tears. your laughter, your ability to love, and capacity to care. That’s Nadine’s legacy. She would be proud.
