Mildred Young

Resided in Gladstone, MI
Died June 29, 2006

Mildred (Mitzi) E. Young (Ketchum) went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 29, 2006. She was born December 28, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to Mary (Mae) Kerr Ketchum and Lloyd Ketchum. She was the youngest of three children joining an older sister Francis and a brother William (Bill). She moved to Gladstone in 1942 at the age of 14. She attended All Saints Catholic School and was a 1948 graduate of Gladstone High School. In 1949 she married Robert LeRoy Young Sr. and they had 3 children Robin, Robert Jr.(Bob), and Christine (Chrisy).
In her younger years, she was known for her beautiful singing voice and sang in the Gladstone High School Choir, All Saints Catholic Church Choir, as well as performing for many local weddings and funerals. In her later years, she moved to the Lakeview Apartments where she enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her family, and many good friends and neighbors. She was well loved for her quick wit and sense of humor, and for her devotion to her family. She will be greatly missed.

Mitzi was a long time member of All Saint Catholic Church and although she was a shut-in for a number of years, she was a member of the parish prayer chain and valued being able to serve her congregation in this fashion. She enjoyed the visits from Father Arnie, Father Jed and the members of the parish eucharistic ministry who served her over the years.

Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents Mary (Mae) and Lloyd Ketchum, her dearly missed son Robert (Bob) Young Jr., her granddaughter Lisa Marie Manninen, her sister Francis Sherwood, and her brother William (Bill) Ketchum. She is survived by 2 daughters; Robin (Edward) Custance, Christine (John) Derouin, and a dear daughter-in-law Laurie (Bob) Young, as well as, 8 grandchildren William (Billy) (Stormy) Blair, Brian (Christine) Blair, Aarron (Casey) Young, Casey Young, Brett Young, Joshua Derouin, Kelly Derouin, and Jordan Derouin, and 4 great grandchildren, Tempest Blair, Brook Blair, Zachary Blair, and Nathan Young, by her brother-in-laws Theodore (Ted) Sherwood, Ralph (Leslie) Young, sister-in-laws Annette Young, Arlene Young, and Shriley (Jeannie) Young and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

I lived next to Mitzi in Lakeview apartments for a year and she was THE most beautiful woman I have ever known, next to my mom. She always asked if I needed something or wanted something. She was a beautiful flower in our world. I personally will miss her intensely as I know we all will. Much love and prayers to her devoted family and friends.
