Margaret L. “Peg” McDonough, age 95, of 1301 13th Avenue South, Escanaba passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
Peg was born January 6, 1916 in Manistique, Michigan, the daughter of Archie and Edith (Sangraw) Murphy. She was raised in Manistique and was a 1934 graduate of Manistique High School. Peg was united in marriage to Thomas J. McDonough on August 29, 1935 in Manistique. In 1942 Tom and Peg moved to Escanaba where they raised their family and resided the rest of their lives. Peg was a member of the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish and worked as a bookkeeper for Sviland’s Paint Store and Tom’s Signs, her husbands business, for 56 years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, the National Catholic Forester for over 50 years, the daughters of Isabella and sang in the St. Patrick’s Church choir for many years. Peg was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed playing bridge and following her grandchildren’s activities.

Peg is survived by two sons, Jerry W. (Nancy) McDonough of San Luis Obispo, CA, Terry J. (Cindy) McDonough of Kipling, MI, one daughter, Colleen (Dennis) Kane of Escanaba, MI, seven grandchildren, Colleen A. (Scott) Bye, Tara McDonough, Kelly (Steve) Pepin, Kevin (Kathy) McDonough, Shannon Carlson, Stephanie (Erik) Simonsen and Heather (Jeff) Khollman, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, her parents, a sister Marie DuPont and a brother Earl Murphy.

The McDonough family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 PM at the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. Peg will be laid to rest, next to her husband, in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
