Gladstone, MI
Margaret Berg of Gladstone went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2012.
Margaret, who reached her 100th birthday on Tuesday, March 6th, greeted family and friends at her centennial celebration on Saturday, March 24th.
No one was a stranger to Margaret. Give her a minute and a cup of coffee, and she could find a common thing to talk about with you.
Margaret was always ready to share a laugh or a card game. She was a good cook who could make gravy from anything. She was industrious and crafty. She could knit, crochet, and embroider. Her handiwork can be found in the homes of all of her children and grandchildren.
Family was the foundation and focus of Margaret

To Shirla & Marilyn.I do not know if you remember me but I am Kay (Cartwright) VanBrocklin. My parents were Hazel & Beaver Cartwright…we rented from your folks while my Dad was building our house back in the 50’s. Your Mom spent a lot of time with my Mom…I remember those two picking berries, having coffee together & just being really great friends. We are going downstate for a college graduation & will be gone @ the time of your mom’s funeral, but my thoughts & prayers will be with you girls & your families. You have a wonderful Mom & are truly blessed to have had her with you for so long.

We enjoyed getting to know Margaret when we bought her family home on the corner of Wisconsin and 12th street. She was so wonderful and so kind. May she rest peacefully in her eternal rest!

Shirla & Marilyn,
As Kay stated in her memorial tribute, you may not recall having been playmates with my sister and I (Bonnie & Margaret Flannery) way back in 1943, when my family rented the upstairs apt. from the Reynolds, and your family lived downstairs, on Wis. Ave. I specifically remember attending kindergarten for just a couple months in the ‘little white’ schoolhouse next to the high school. Our father bought some property after returning from a several month stint in Alaska, and we moved to rural Gladstone. I would imagine that our mothers might have been acquainted; however, we did not live in the apt. very long, so with mother having 4 young children, sans her husband, she had to have been quite busy during that time. I do remember that we went berry picking with my Aunt Marian Flannery, who lived nearby. As a ‘throw back in time’ memory, do you remember Janet Sue Paine, who lived across the street?
You were truly blessed with having had your mother with you for all those years. My mother died at age 82, here in Rockford, IL, and was widowed since age 52.
It has been nice to reminisce…I am familiar with the Solis family from Flat Rock.
May God bless and comfort you in your loss.

A wonderful lady has left us. Sister Sharon’s in our thoughts, friend of Shirla. Margaret was my friend and co-worker at the school. We all live one time on Wisc. Ave. We can be assured she and Sharon will have a laugh or two together now. You folks are in our thought and prayers at a hard time like this. Hugs
