Mae I. Miller, age 89, of 6177 I Road, Escanaba, MI passed away Easter Sunday April 12, 2009 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba where she currently was a resident.Mae was born November 7, 1919 in Rock, MI the daughter of Charles and Mary (Zangle) Sarasin. Mae was raised in Rock until the age of 8 when her family moved to Gladstone. Mae attended Gladstone Public Schools, and later in life she was a 1980 graduate of the Escanaba Community Schools. She also attended classes at Bay De Noc Community College.
Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, Mae assembled telescopes and bombsights for the U.S. Army and Navy from 1942 to 1943 for the Bell and Howell Company. She then served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1943 to 1946 where she served with the Medical Corps stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Upon her honorable discharge in 1946 she received the U.S. Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mae was united in marriage to James C. Miller on November 4, 1946. They made their home in several states prior to James death in 1974. Mae returned to Escanaba in 1974.
