Lyle (Ding) E. Godfrey Sr.

Lyle (Ding) E. Godfrey Sr., age 92, of Gladstone, passed away early Saturday morning, April 18, 2020, at Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette. After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer disease.

Lyle was born June 19, 1927, in Gladstone, the son of Charles and Flossie (Pelkey) Godfrey. Lyle was raised in Gladstone and attended the Gladstone schools. In February of 1946, Lyle enlisted in the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge.

Lyle was united in marriage to the former Carol Nelson on July 3, 1975. Together, Lyle and Carol made their home and raised their children in Gladstone. Lyle was a mechanic/truck driver for Clairmont Trucking. He and Carol were also the owners of the Village Inn in Perkins.

Lyle was a good man and loved his family. Lyle enjoyed NASCAR, going to camp in Stonington, deer hunting, wood working, gardening and was a member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71.

Survivors include:
Sons: Larry (Mary) Godfrey, Dan Godfrey, Lyle Godfrey Jr., Louis (Bev) Terrian Jr., Michael (Colleen) Terrian, Charles Lesley,
Daughters: Peggy Anderson, Mary Bovin, Robin Boudreau, Pamela (Michael) McCullough, Ann Marie (Robert) Olsen,
Sister: Evelyn (Mike) Birkholz
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Charles and Flossie and his loving wife Carol, Lyle was preceded in death by:

Brothers: Ralph, Art, Merlan, Walter, Harrison, Robert, William, Ted, Irving, Gerald and Everett Godfrey
Sisters: Martha Eagle, Dorothy Micheau and Alice Micheau

To honor Lyle’s wishes, a Celebration of life will be conducted at a later date. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

    I really liked Ding. He had a great attitude. I worked with him for a short time at Clairmont’s. He was a good person and my thought go out to his family.
