Louis Junior Whipple, age 87, passed away early Sunday morning, November 24, 2024, at his home in Bark River, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella, his parents and brothers, Henry and Lawrence Stair.
Louis was born June 15, 1937, in Rapid River, the son of Louis E. and Alice May (Pyke) Whipple. He was raised in Rapid River and was a 1955 graduate of Rapid River High School. Following high school, Louis enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1956 as an anti-aircraft artilleryman with the 23rd AAA battalion until his honorable discharge in 1958. On November 7, 1959, Louis was united in marriage to the former Luella Dabney, at All Saints Church, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. He worked for and retired from the Mead Paper Company after 31 years. After the passing of Luella, Louis met, courted and married Marjorie Jamison. The two volunteered at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center on Fridays where he looked forward to the opportunity to talk to other veterans and their families.
In addition to his wife Marjorie, Louis is survived by his son, Loren (Julie) Whipple of Gladstone; daughter, Loma (Scott) Fowler of Watervliet, MI; grandson, Nathan Whipple; sister, Bonnie Lou Pinozek of Escanaba; nieces, Linda Peterson and Lorie Landis of Escanaba; nephew, Dave Ponozek of Escanaba; step-daughters Donna (Bill) Yale of Dubois, Pa; Diane Wright of Mogadore, OH; Deborah Jamison of Escanaba; step-son John (Carmen) Jamison of Bark River; grandchildren Wyatt and Regan Jamison; and his additional, loving step-family, another 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Friday, November 29 from 2:00 to 3:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 3:45. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Christine Bergquist officiating. Louis will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone at 10:00 AM.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Louis a few times with his family but he always made me smile. He was such a warm and friendly fellow and Louis will be missed by all who knew him.
