Keith Ploof, age 66, Rapid River passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home.

Keith was born January 9, 1948 in Hancock, Michigan, the son of Albert and Marie (Lasee) Ploof. He was a graduate of the Marquette Bishop of Baraga High School. Following graduation, Keith went to work for the Soo Line Railroad until he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from 1967 until 1971 in California and Nofolk, Virginia. Upon is discharge Keith went back to work for the Soo Line/Wisconsin Central Railroad until he retired after 34 years of service.

Keith was a member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71 and loved going to camp, cross country skiing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and his girlfriend, Sharyn.

Keith is survived by his son, Jamie (Amy) Ploof of Rochester Hills, MI, his daughter, Daina (Eric) Norden of Rock, MI, his loving companion, Sharyn Rivest of Rapid River, MI, two grandchildren Alex and Vivian, his brother, Terry (Patti) Ploof of Skandia, MI, nephews, Josh and Derrick and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin infant brothers, Jack and John.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16 from 3:00 PM to 4:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 4:45 PM by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services at the Gladstone American Legion. Keith will laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.

    We were very sorry to hear of Keith’s passing. Always enjoyed his pleasant personality and infectious smile. Karens son Justin still asks about “Keith the train guy” he got to meet so many years ago! Thinking good thoughts during this hard time for Sharyn and his family.
