Katherine (Katie) F. Johnson, age 98, passed away on July 22 at Christian Park Village, Escanaba, MI. She was born on January 23, 1912 in Grand Haven, MI and was the daughter of Wilhelm and Mary (Hartman) Groth. On June 28, 1935, Katie married Warner A. Johnson. The couple made their home and raised their family of four in Muskegon. Warner (Ernie) preceded her in death in 1996. Katie was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Muskegon. Her life centered around family and church fellowship, which she always sprinkled with good-natured humor. She had a passion for writing poetry that focused on nature, joy in living, and spirituality. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader and gardener, and delighted many recipients with her creative use of craft materials. Her secret to a long and happy life was to never hold a grudge and always stay close to God.
She is survived by her sons, Warner (Rosemarie) Johnson Jr. of Spring Lake, Donald (Jule Ann) Johnson of Norton Shores, Ronald (Darlene) Johnson of Castro Valley, CA; her daughter Adelle (Dick) Aaberg of Gladstone; 1 sister, Emma Sheltma of Grand Haven; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Katherine will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 4475 Henry St., Muskegon, MI with Pastor Mark Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be at Historic Cemetery in Grand Haven.
