Joseph D. Bartol 87 of 1615 10th Ave. South Escanaba died on Monday, October 25,2004 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born April 5,1917 in Newberry, Michigan the son of Joseph and Frances (Bambic) Bartol and had lived in Escanaba most of his life.
He was a Veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Army with the 8th Field Artillery Observation. Mr Bartol was married to the former Mildred Vuksan on November 30, 1946 and she survives. He had worked for the Harnischfeger Corp. for 30 years in the Shipping and Recieving Dept. and retired in 1980. He was a member of the V.F. W.; the Traunik Slovenian Club and U.A.W. Local #632. He was also a life member of St. Anne Church. Joseph enjoyed his woodworking as a hobbie.

He leaves to survive his wife of 57 years Mildred

2 Sons: Thomas G. (Susan) Bartol of Gladstone, MI, Jerry J. (Gerri) Bartol of Gladstone, MI

2 Daughters: Fran (Daryl) Prey of Escanaba, MI, Mary Bartol of Pacific Grove, California

8 Grandchildren: Thomas, Brian, Benjamin, Casey, Tony, Bridget, Nathan and Matthew

4 Great Grandchildren: Max, Jack, Jacob and Shaylyn

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother Frank Bartol

The Bartol family will receive friends on Thursday from 12 Noon till 4:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Joseph Bartol will be held on Thursday at 5:00 PM at St. Anne Church with Fr.Mike Steber officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Lunch will follow the Mass in the Church Hall. Memorials in his name should be directed to: “YMCA Strong Kids”.
