James P. Cole, age 67, of 612 Montana Avenue, Gladstone, passed away Friday morning August 2, 2013 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.

James was born October 9, 1945 in Escanaba, MI the son of Paul and Irene (Baribeau) Cole. He was raised in Gladstone and graduated in 1963 from Gladstone High School. James worked for Local #506 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters until his retirement in 1999.

James was a member of the Gladstone Yacht Club and the Sons of the American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golfing at the Lake Bluff Golf Course.

In addition to his wife, the former Kathryn Meyer, who he was united in marriage to on July 25, 1992 in Stonington, survivors also include:

Daughters: Patti (Ryan) Stevenson of Gladstone, Ann Marie (Scott) Sliva of Lower Michigan.

Son: Matthew Papas of North Carolina

Brothers: Paul (Sue) Cole of Gladstone and Tom (Vicki) Cole of Green Bay, WI

Sister: Mary Soper of Cornell

3 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Ann Marie Cole and brother-in-law, Robert Soper, preceded James in death.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday August 6, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion Hall in Gladstone. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

    Kathy, so sorry for your loss. I sure am glad I got to see Jim a couple of weeks ago at Christian Park. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

    My time spent in the UP have provided me with some of my favorite memories of my life, and each of those trips are not complete without a visit from Jim to our camp – I will always think of him and the good times we had, the stories, and the laughs. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kathy and your whole family. Rest in Peace Jim
