Elaine, it has been such a long time since we have seen each other, but when Dan Robotham brought us the paper from Beulah, I was so sorry to hear of Harold’s passing. He was such a good guy in our class and figured I would see so many of you next year at the class reunion, I hope you know you are still welcome. I know it will be hard for you, but please know that we will all be thinking of you and if there is anything that you would like to talk about. Remember girlfriend I know a lot!! Dick and I have been living in Fl. since 85 and have now been retired for about 7 years. I am really proud of all that Harold accomplished and no one is suprised. Love to you Elaine. Alma

I remember Harold as a person respected by all. He stood tall among his peers. This man fiercly defended all he knew was right. I was humbled to have had his support. I retired 15 years ago from Benzie County. I was proud to have this Man among my friends, both while working and since.

Dear Elaine, I was one of the “5 Amigo’s” along with Harold, Brent Willison, Dick Sawken, and Chuck Varner who were all hired in 1967. They took our temperature’s, sent us up to Walter, gave us uniforms, a revolver, ticket books and sent us into the wilderness. Three years later they sent us to recruit school. I already had 10 years with the Department, so I was the only recruit getting longevity pay. We drove Ed Ferguson up the wall, because having been in the field we would question the presenters. We got Ed on the last day of PT by throwing him in a big hole we had dug in the snow.
I always thought that Harold was a leader and would go far in the LED. I didn’t get to work with Harold that much, you being in the U.P. and me in Big Rapids. I did get to go back up to Gaylord for the Elks hunts because thats where I had started in 1996. You know that C.O.’s like to talk about supervison, well I never heard a discouraging word from his people. He was a man’s man and I’m proud to be one of the Amigo’s who could call him my friend.

We will all miss Harald. He was a great guy and good boss. Enjoyed talking to Harold at all those spring and fall conservation officer get togethers. He was well respected in the old DNR law Division. I wish I could make the funeral but I will not be back in the U.P. until the first of May.
