Gloria Gereau, age 81, passed away late Saturday evening, February 22, 2020, at her home in Rapid River.

Gloria was born May 21, 1938, in Flat Rock, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Seronko) Burcar. Gloria was raised in Flat Rock and was a 1956 graduate of Gladstone High School.

Shortly after graduation on June 30, 1956, Gloria was united in marriage to Barry Gereau and together the couple made their home and raised their 7 children in Gladstone.

Gloria was a past member of All Saints Parish in Gladstone, St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Wells and most recently a member of St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba. Over the years she taught CCD, served as a lector and an extraordinary minister. She enjoyed her family, playing cards, knitting, reading, canning and bowling on league for many years. Camping with Barry and their children was a summer vacation that Gloria looked forward to each year. She loved the wonderful memories created as a family and no one could fry fish over an open fire better than Gloria! She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her loving husband Barry, Gloria is survived by:
Sons: Guy (Nancy), Barry Joseph, Marty (Martha Johnson), Dan, Neil (Tara) and Tim (Janet) Gereau
Daughter: Sandy (Steve) Trent
Daughter-in-law: Pam Gereau
16 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren
Sisters: Louise LeGault and Pam (George) Balian
Brothers-in-law: Wally (Diane), Frank (Mary) and David (Judith) Gereau
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Since her passing, the Gereau family also lost Gloria’s Sister-in-law, Carol Steinhoff, on February 24, 2020.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary:

Brothers-in-law: Ed Gurga, Tippy LeGault and Guy Gereau
Sister-in-law: Loma Gereau
Father and Mother-in-law: Wally and Elsie Gereau

Family will receive friends on Saturday, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM, at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours on Saturday, at 12:30PM, at St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba, with Rev. Fr. Tim Ferguson officiating along with Concelebrants Rev. Fr. Eric Olson and Rev. Fr. Dominic Afrifa. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish Hall. Gloria will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. Contributions in Gloria’s name may be directed to Pregnancy Services of Delta County or the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

    Oh my…rest in peace my dear sweet neighbor mom from North 17th Street. One of my fondest memories of Gloria is when we would find ourselves in their backyard playing kickball or a baseball game, she would always come out with a full loaf of Bunny bread peanut butter sandwiches for everyone. She was a great lady and I remember my moms and her coffee clutch sessions of our youth with fondness. My deepest sympathy to your family and we will be praying for Gods presence and peace in this difficult time.

    In memory of my dear Auntie Gloria♥️ My heart was always uplifted being with you, as well as in phone conversations. You brought such energy and ‘spirit’ into everything! My childhood and teen years are imprinted with joy&happiness in my summer stays on N 17th street. I really believed that you were the original ‘superwoman’ with all you did and accomplished every day! The canning, delicious home made bread & jam and all those raspberries~ still my favorite to this day!. I’ll always hear your laughter and miss you and so grateful for you being in my children’s lives too. I will always give thanks to the Lord for you. So glad I had you in my life~ with eternal ❤️ love ~ your niece ‘lulu’
