Gertrude Ann Stuesser, age 93, of Escanaba, Michigan passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Michigan.
Gertrude was born on June 17, 1917 in Ewen, Michigan, the daughter of Leander and Wilhelmina (Binder) Stuesser. Upon graduating from Graveraet High School in Marquette High School she attended the University of Michigan, obtaining her nursing degree in 1938. Gertrude is a veteran of World War II spending 28 months in India in the Army Nurse Corps. After her discharge she again attended the University of Michigan earning her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist degree. She was immediately called back to service in the Korean War. Gertrude continued her nursing as a civilian in Wisconsin, California, Kansas and Tennessee, moving often to be with her niece and family. She retired in 1976 and moved back to Ewen, later moving to Escanaba and residing at the Harbor Towers apartments. Gertrude was a life member of the China, Burma and Indian Veteran

    God bless Gert’s soul. She was such a lovely lady. I miss her smile at Harbor Tower. She was always ready to help in the kitchen for our dinners and soup suppers. I had many a good talks about everything imaginable. I loved hearing about her time in the Army. She always talked about you with such love and it showed in her face. She felt so blessed to have you in her life. So here’s to you Gert go and fly with the butterflies until we meet again. Love you lots
