George Stone Anderson, age 79, of Rapid River passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. His entire family was by his side.

George attended school in Rapid River. Following graduation he worked for a time at Oliver Aviation in Battle Creek, Michigan. He also attended college at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. In 1955 George was united in marriage to the former Patsy Ann Gibson. He went to work for the family business and eventually became owner and manager for Anderson Lumber in Rapid River until his death. George was a member of the Congregational Church in Rapid River, the Rapid River Lions Club, the Gladstone Golf Club, a director of 1st Bank in Gladstone and for many years, managed American Legion Baseball in Rapid River. George was also an outdoorsman, hunter, trapper, skier and enjoyed spending time at his camp on the White Fish River.

George is survived by his wife, Patsy; three sons, George (Mary), Greg (Michelle) and Gerry (Sara); grandchildren, Tracy, Ryan, Jacob, & Erin Ann Anderson, Sandy Goudreau , Ryan (Amber) Olson and Hillary Mills; his brother, Robert; sisters, Janet Aper and Mary (Mike) Larrabee; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends, Sam Gibson, Tom and Pat Way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Esther (Johnson) Anderson, a sister, Gwendolyn and an infant daughter, Verna Gay.

Memorial services celebrating the life of George Anderson will be on Saturday, June 30 at 4:00 PM at the Congregational Church in Rapid River with Pastor Bill Rafuse officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the church. A luncheon will be served following services in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions in George’s name may be directed to the Delta County Animal Shelter, the Delta County Cancer Alliance or the Congregational Church in Rapid River. The Anderson family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Gladstone.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
