I believe that most of the ‘good times’ I had in my younger years of social activity, involved Yucker. He was usually around. Spreading joy, giving awesome hugs, flashing that famous smile. The last time was at the George Throughgood concert in Harris. He was all pumped because he threw a hat or headband onto the stage and they kept it, put in on their gorilla head infront of the drums……when I seen ‘George’ in the Soo, sure enough, there was Yuckers hat, still on the Gorilla head, wish I could remember exactly what it was, maybe it was a headband. Anyway, he was PROUD. I hope it’s still there, traveling from place to place, jammin, enjoying life, people, experiences…cuz that was Yucker.
He was always so full of life that it saddened me to see him suffering with his disease of Diabetes. I will miss running into him and seeing the room light up with his smile, but I’m relieved to know that his illness is gone and he is at peace, still giving out awesome hugs I’m sure…… And being PROUD, just proud to be!!!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you! I went to school with the family and remember Yucker getting on the school bus and always thought he was one of the cutest kids. He has touched the lives of so many people and will truly be missed by all. I am also married to Bob Jensens brother Cliff, and Joyce is our sister in law. I found this poem and thought it might be of some comfort to you! God Saw You…

    by Author Unknown

    God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
    and whispered, “Come to me”.
You didn’t deserve what you went through,
    So He gave you rest.
    God’s garden must be beautiful,
    He only takes the best
And when he saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
we could not wish you back
    To suffer that again.

To Yuckers Family, I can not imagine the saddness you must be feeling at this time. I new Yucker and his family as neigbors, all of us growing up together. When I think back to the pranks and stunts we as children used to do, with Yucker usually in the center of things it always brings a smile and a laugh. He was always coming up with great ideas on how we could do something and not get caught. Heaven has gained another angel, one with a sense of humor and a great personality. My prayers go out to you all at this sad time. May God guide you all through this difficult time.

My condolences to his family and all the other people that he touched, there were so many. Yuckers was a kind, gentle-hearted soul. He taught me how to do the Caveman. I’ve known him for over 12 years, and every time I saw him somewhere he always made me feel better about my life because no matter what was going on in his, he always had a smile to share with me. His smile could light up a room, and the world is going to be a darker place without it. He will be dearly missed.

To your whole family, my deepest condolences. He was brave. Yucker has a kind, generous soul. I was awed by his ability for jewelry making. He will be remembered as a caring friend to our family. When my father was near death in the hospital he and some brothers and sisters came and sat with us; a kindness that will always be remembered.

I was so sad to hear this. Yucker had a special place in my heart because years ago, when no one else cared, he gave me advise that was very wise, and helped me very much. He helped me to make good change in my life. I have told my kids about his example hoping they will do the same for others when they get a chance. Yucker was AOK in my book, and missed in my heart. I am sorry for your loss.

Yuckers, you are an Escanaba Institution…I am 31 years old, and as long as I can remember..you have always been there..from the old days when I was just a little girl growing up and you knowin my family, to the mid-days, at the stardust, you and your hankerchief, wiping the sweat off as you danced your arse off. To the final days, when you lived right down the block from me, coming over to see how the kids were doing. I will miss you tooling down the block as we work on our flowers, talking about the gossip of the neighborhood. You are truly an institution in this town, and I KNOW that everyone will miss you DEARLY!

One memory from when i was very young was of my cousin Yucker when my parents (Toots aka Joyce and Bob) took my sister and I to our Grandma Rose’s house in Escanaba and a bunch of people came over and Yucker was one of them and the only thing I remember from that trip was Yucker being the one that was leading all of the laughing.

Dear Family, my heart cries for you all because of the loss of one of the sweetest, funniest, happiest members of our family. He`s singing and dancing with Jesus and His Angels right now,and probably teaching them new ones. He doesn`t want us to cry over him. Just remember all the good times and laughs we`ve had with him. He loved life and lived it like there was no tomorrow. He`s also with other members of our family, and his mom and gramma too. My love to you all, and wish I was there with you. Aunt Toots.

I met Yucker in 1996 while we lived on So. 10th street in Escanaba. I saw this man walking just about everyday, and one day I was having trouble unloading my van with my granddaughter in my arms. He helped me and told me his name, and after that whenever I saw him there was usually a nod or a wave, and of course a smile. I told my husband about him and his name and pointed him out one day and I was surprised to find out that he knew him. He rode the school bus to the Perkins school with all the Dunlop kids. He got a chance later to talk with Yucker and go back and catch up on some things from their younger days. My husband works on the ore boats and when he called this morning I told him that Yucker had passed. He was saddened by the news, and of course shocked. Yucker was an icon around town and will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Thank you for the memories.

To all the family, know my prayers are with you in this time of grief, you have all had your share of grief during these past few years! Remember the poem; Author ?; “Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep, I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow; I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn’s rain. When you awake in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.” Gary is in your heart forever and now he is with all of the family and friends gone on before, no longer ill and running with joy, he is strong and is welcomed into the Arm’s of Jesus, and family that are already there; in Heaven! May God Bless you and give you strength to carry on! Love to you all!
