I met Don years ago in a bar in Gladstone which was featuring a blues band. A buddy of mine pointed Don out to me as a John Prine lookalike. Don was pleased to learn of the resemblance. I would see Don out and about through the years. Our friendship blossomed when I we saw each other at the organizational meeting of the Bay de Noc Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Don was one of the founding members of our fellowship. Because of his work in Milwaukee, he was not able to attend our services as often as he would like. When he did he offered great insights. He was delighted to share with me the news of his impending marriage to Janice Basely with whom he was very much in love. I will miss Don. He was a great friend.

I was very saddened to hear of Don’s passing. I knew him through the UU church and found that he was my neighbor in Brampton for the last few years. I always enjoyed talking with him, he was always full of surprises as I got to know him a little better. I sometimes stopped by as he worked in his garden when I would ride my bike by his place. I will miss those conversations and his real down to earth open-mindedness. My deepest sympathies to his family and other friends.

My heart goes out to all of you who knew Donny and Charlotte. I can’t imagine the grief that you must feel. I will pause on Sunday and cheer on the Detroit Lions in Donny’s memory, and on Monday I will pray silently as both he and Charlotte are laid to rest.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you as we know how Charlotte and Donny will be missed. I remember sitting next to Charlotte at Mass the Sat. before Mother’s Day a few years back and she showed me the funny card she had just received from Donny. Her smile lite up the church

My heart is broken. He was the only person I had known as a father in my life. He came into my life when I needed him most. we remained rather close after the passing of my mother Cynthia Kuchan. I have and always will have the great memories of this man. My mother thought highly of him, and He took the title of my father no matter what. He was always there for me…you will be in my heart forever…

Our sincere condolences go out to the Erickson family. My heart is just broken hearing the shocking news of Donny’s sudden passing. This is so tragic being so close to the passing of his mother Charlotte. I last saw Donny in July 2010. He was so happy and in such a good place in his life. I will forever treasure our visit together, his smile, our laughter, and the joy he expressed in his heart. May you rest peacefully in the loving arms of dear Charlotte by your side.
