You always knew where you stood with Dave. Ususally at the end of one of his snappy jokes. We always laughed when he was around & you always had to shake your head at the end of it all. Hank will miss yakking with you at Holiday & me & the girls will miss seeing you try to throw pennies down whatever you were aiming for. Dave, you always took the energy out of a room when you left; and now you have taken the energy out of our hearts. You will be missed!!

Still to this day, I think back and always think my dad is going to be a Holiday at a crazy hour in the morning drink his coffee. Miss my dad greatly

It will be 10 years next month since David’s passing. We were brothers from the time his father married my mother May 16, 1970. We didn’t see each other much, but we were brothers-in-arms and were fellow deer hunters. Here is a poem I wrote that expressed my sorrow over his passing:

    I Miss My Brother David
    I hardly knew you though.
The things we should have could have done
    I guess we’ll never know.
    You treated us like family
    because that’s what families do.
Rough and prickly on the outside,
    but insides made of goo.
As little as we saw you
    connected we did stay
    Making us feel special
    in big and little ways.
An awesome brother you’ll always be
I knew that from the start.
Because you and I dear brother
    are connected at the heart.
    I really miss you.
    Love,
    Don
