Mr. Carlson has been a big part of my life since I can remember. My father would always take my brother and I up to Rock just to get a haircut from good ol’ Cliff. We would have conversations about athletics, hunting, and just life itself, there were some good memories with him. Now being away at college, it has been very difficult accepting the fact that someone so great has passed on, and it saddens me so to know that we have lost a great individual. I would like to send my condolences to the Carlson family, for it must be very difficult to lose someone so great. Cliff will always be in my heart, and my prayers go out to all of those affected by his passing.

Dear Toodie and family,
We were saddened to learn of Cliff’s death. I’ll always remember the time when Cliff took me on the kindergarten bus run when I was 5, even though I lived across the street and didn’t need to ride the bus. I’ll remember the many haircuts he gave me as a kid and that he was able to give my own son a haircut just a year or two ago. He gave haircuts to at least 4 generations of Makis from Grandpa Les on down. I also remember that wonderful laugh he had to share with everyone. He’ll truly be missed.

Toodie and family, where do you start Cliff was an exceptional man and Rock icon, he was the barber, town historian and family genealogist. We will all miss him dearly; I didn’t grow up in rock but he sure made me feel like I did. Kyle and Taylor loved to visit Cliff at the Barber shop even when we didn’t need a haircut. We had to stop bye to show Cliff Kyle’s first deer. Take comfort in knowing how this man meant so much too so many people. Few will impact others the way Cliff did.

Dear Toodie, Jeff & Cindy, Randy & Beth, Kim, Wade & Kevin, and Vicki & Robert… I was shocked and saddened to hear Cliff has passed away. Cliff and all of you are almost like family to me. Remember kids, I was your babysitter back in the late 50’s and early 60’s! Cliff was an inspiration to everyone in Rock with his never ending smile and service to the community. As a member of the Patriot Guard Riders I would also like to thank Cliff for his service to our country. I wish I could be there for his services but we are way down here in Florida for the winter. I never heard a harsh word pass Uncle Arpy’s lips except when he dished me up some peas. I said I didn’t like peas. He said you eat those or I will give you another spoonful. I ate my peas! I loved going into his barbershop! The smells and all the wonderous things in there were captivating. Uncle Arpy was always laughing and Oh how he could tell a joke! I know he is sharing a Brandy in heaven with Grandma Josie, Norm, Clancy, and Eleanor. Love to all.

There are some people whose presence brightens a room, puts a smile on your face, and just makes everything seem all right with the world – that describes Uncle Cliff. His was a true example of a life well-lived. His warmth, humor, generosity, and storytelling made him a joy to be around. Is there a better place to be in this world than Cliff & Toodie’s kitchen?
