Carl W. Sandberg, age 81, of Escanaba, passed away Monday afternoon, December 3, 2012, at the St. Francis Hospital, in Escanaba.

Carl was born October 26, 1931, in Marinette, WI, the son of Carl E. and Margaret (Dugan) Sandberg. He was raised in Marinette and attended the Marinette schools. In August of 1952, Carl enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in July of 1954. Throughout his enlistment, Carl received medals of accommodation which included, the Korean Service Ribbon with one bronze service star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. On December 11, 1964, Carl was united in marriage to the former Ruby Eugate and together the couple made their home on the North side of Escanaba. Ruby preceded Carl in death on May 30, 2002. Carl was employed by Chicago Northwestern Railroad for many years and was proud to have been a longtime member of the Menominee American Legion Post #0146. He will be deeply missed.

Sisters: Joyce (Ward) Uecke of Menominee, MI
Carol (Ron) Woods of Menominee, MI
Brother in law: Robert Westoff of Menominee, MI

He is further survived by nieces, nephews and additional family members.

His loving wife Ruby, parents, Carl E. and Margaret (Dugan) Sandberg and sister, Marilyn Westoff preceded Carl in death.
