Carl “Eddie” Bryant, age 93, of Rapid River passed away Monday morning, September 12, 2011 at home following a lengthy illness.
Carl was born January 21, 1918 in Garden, Michigan, the son of Edward and Leah (Lamothe) Bryant. He served his country proudly from 1941 to 1945 in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was united in marriage to Marion Dillabough. Their union lasted for over 59 years. Carl worked as a welder and assembler at the Harnischfeger Corporation in Gladstone for 30 years until he retired in 1981. Carl was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Post 301 and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife, Marion of Rapid River; four sons Larry (Penny) of Gladstone, Paul of Escanaba, Mike (Teresa) of Rapid River and Bruce (Laurie) of Gladstone; two daughters Donna (Darryl) Gurley of Atlanta, GA and Esther Bryant of Rapid River; 8 grandchildren Shannon (Eric) Miron, Jeremy (Ashley) Bryant, Brenden Bryant, Brett Bryant, Connor Bryant, Alyssa Bryant, Kala Bryant; 3 step-grandchilren Edward (Sarah) Closs, Sandra (Cory) Allen and Rebecca (Kyle) Closs; 2 great grandchildren Haley and Madison Bryant; 6 step great grandchildren Avery, Chloe, Hunter, Mitchell, Evan and Derek; one brother Nick Bryant of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sadie Haywood, Leona Schnekenburger and Ella Englehart and a great grandson, Bentley Ray Bryant Fedak
Visitation will be Friday, September 16 from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Rites will be conducted at 5:45 PM at the funeral home by the Rapid River American Legion Post 301. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor William Rafuse officiating. A luncheon will be served following services at the Congregational Church of Rapid River. Carl will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
