Barbara Jean Majestic

Barbara Jean Majestic, age 73, passed away on March 14th, due to complications of the flu while she was returning from a vacation in Florida. Barb was born Elkhart, IN on July 10, 1946, the daughter of William and Rita Williams. After graduating from Elkhart High School, she went to radiology school were she graduated first in her class. She married the late Derwith Carlson and shortly after moved to U.P. (some place she had never heard of) residing in Rapid River before eventually settling in Gladstone. In 1990 she married Bob Majestic and they have made their home on Lake Bluff since then.

Barb was fortunate to be a stay home mom when her children were young and then eventually worked for the U.S Postal Service for 28 years, serving 8 nearby communities before retiring as the Postmaster in Wells in 2005.

Barb was a long time member of the Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 and was named Auxiliary Elk of the Year in 2007. She bowled in the Elkette league as well as various other leagues in the area. She loved to knit and crochet blankets, hats and scarves for her grandchildren and when she was caught up with those she would make them to donate to local charities. She and Bob were members at The Terrace Bluff and as much as she loved golf she truly treasured the friendships she developed at the club and in her neighborhood. And, of course, she was a proud Grandma and loved to spend time with her family and her 8 grandchildren.

Over the last several years, Barb had to endure several serious medical procedures and hospital stays and she fought like a warrior. Bob never, ever left her side – providing her so much comfort and security during some very stressful times. We should all be so fortunate to have someone like that in our lives. Through all of these hardships it is comforting to know she died so peacefully – in her sleep, with Bob by her side.

Barb is survived by her three children; Michael (Kara) Carlson and their children, Erin, Regan, and Peyton of Green Bay; Steven (Cindi) Carlson and their children Tucker and Saylor of Rapid River and Christine (Brad) Nelson and their children Lauren, Lily and Kelsey of Escanaba. Two brothers; Quentin (Roberta) Williams of Goshen, IN and Gary (Mary Beth) Williams of Orland Park, IL.

She is further survived by her two step sons; Mark (Jackie) Majestic of Midland, MI and their children Matt, Sara, Megan, Heather and Teddy and Scott Majestic of Largo, FL and his son Kyle.

Family will receive friends Friday, March 20, 2020 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Tom Otis, Pastor officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest at the Rapid River Cemetery in the Spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Majestic family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Kathy’s House at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI.

    I’ve known Barb for many years since I first had her children at the Cameron School. She was a great mom and dedicated to her family. To her children, I’m so sorry for your loss. She showed her love for you all the time. I will always remember her with a smile.

    I’m so sorry to find that Barbara has passed on. She is my 1st cousin on the Williams side of the family. My mother Edna and her father William were brother and sister.. I only found Barbara when I was working on genealogy. I made contact with her and enjoyed the short visits we had over the phone. May she have eternal peace. Prayers for the family.

    I sure loved Barb! We have so many great memories together bowling on the same team at the Elks for many, many years and looking forward to visiting one another at various golf tournaments throughout the summer!
    One of my favorite memories of Barb always occurred just before the Super Bowl. I was in charge of our “Elks Bowling Team Super Bowl” square in a large Super Bowl pool. I’d text Barb each year and ask her to send me her money towards her share of the square. She always looked forward to this pool and when she sent me her $26.00 she would always include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for her copy of the pool. She never just wanted to know our numbers, she always wanted a hard copy of the pool so she could follow along. =)
    I’m so glad you took that photo of all of you on Steve’s 50th birthday! What a great family photo and keep sake just a short month ago.

    Bob, Mike, Steve and Christine Both Art and I were so sorry to hear of Barb’s passing. I’ll always remember the first time I met Barb after we had moved to the UP from Wisconsin. I was 36 and pregnant, she looked at me and said better you than me! That was 42 years ago, and we remained friends ever since.
    We have lots of memories of celebrations and parties. I’m sorry Art and I won’t be able to attend Barb’s services as we are still in Myrtle Beach, SC and
    won’t be home for 2 weeks. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love Art and Rosie Spindler
