Gladstone, MI
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Angeline Marie Gurga on April 12, 2014.
Angie was born in Gladstone on Oct. 6, 1925 to Louis Victor and Mary Georgina Burcar. Her parents and Angie began a life of farming in the Flatrock area of Delta County. In 1943, Angie left the farm and moved to Chicago where she gained employment with Wittek-Microdot Corporation and met the love of her life, Edward J. Gurga.
Edward and Angie continued their lives in Chicago after their 1945 marriage was performed in Gladstone. Later, after many years, Angie retired from Western Electric and they moved back to Gladstone. It was difficult for her to leave the vast numbers of friends that were cultivated during her working career and their personal family friendships.
Angie also leaves behind a group of special friends in Gladstone whom she loved dearly and that meant so much to her. Angie was fortunate enough for the past 20 years to annually escape the harsh Michigan winters and live with her daughter, Gloria, in Southern California. During these winter escapes her wonderful personality acquired many friends and many enjoyable experiences.
Angie passed away, peacefully, of a cardiac arrest at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Angie will forever be cherished by her surviving son, Edward J. Gurga, Jr. of Chicago; her daughters, Gloria M. Kersey-Wiggins (James W. Wiggins, Jr.) of Westlake Village, Calif., and Louise A. Kobernus of Lemont, Ill.; her five grandchildren, Jeannine, Jason, Christina, Erin and Kyle; and one great-grandchild, Krayson. Angie leaves three sisters, Louise LeGault of Gladstone, Gloria Gereau (Barry) of Rapid River, and Pamela Balian (George) of Los Angeles, Calif. Angie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews with fond memories of her kitchen delights.
Her love of gardening was enjoyed by all and will be missed.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Loretta; and both of her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held on Friday August 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the All Saints Church Alcove Window Project.
