I was stunned and saddend at the news of Alan’s “Festus” death. We shared many childhood memories growing up together in the neighborhood. He will be remembered for his peaceful and easy going disposition. The last time I saw him was about 15 years ago while bicycling around Macinaw Island with my young family. He will be fondly remembered and truley missed. I offer my sincere condolenses to the family.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Schmidt family. I grew up across the street from Allan, and have many fond memories of him. I will always cherish the memories that we shared while we were young. Although we didn’t see each other too many times after graduating from school, the times that I did see him, he was still the kind, soft spoken and somewhat shy Allan that I always knew. May you all find strength in each other during this sad time in your lives. Allan’s memory will always live on in each of us that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Helen, Doug, Bruce and Carol; I was sad to see that “Festus” (as many friends referred to him) has passed away so young in life, as did another good friend from the neighborhood (Mark Z) just a couple months ago. Alan was a icon of sorts at Mackinac Island for a lot of years and he’ll be missed by others who knew him locally. I’d like to pass along my sincerest condolences to your family at this time. God Bless you all.
To Al’s Family: My name is Nancy and Al worked for my family for many years at our bike shop on Mackinac. We are all sorry to learn that he has passed away. I’ll always remember his laugh and his gentle nature. I am sorry. Sincerely,
Mackinac Island, MI
