Alan Lee Hager, age 70, of Trenary passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Alan was born, September 24, 1953 in Marquette, the son of George and Mildred (Numminen) Hager. He graduated from Trenary High School in 1971. That December he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Eaton. They were married for 17 years. The day after he was married he enlisted in US Navy and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was honorably discharged in 1975. He worked for the Alger County Sheriff’s Department and was an EMT from 1978 to 2001, retiring as the Undersheriff. He continued to assist the Sheriff’s Department where he could after retirement. He was united in marriage to Jill Nelson in 2005. They were married for 14 years until her passing in 2020. Alan enjoyed drinking Busch Light, hunting, taxidermy, woodworking, making knives, tinkering, spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren), helping people in need and was gracious in donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Alan is survived by his children, Lynette Hager, step-children, Dayne Nelson and Mariah Nelson; grandchildren, Jacelyn, Deegan and Brooklyn; siblings, Karen (Jim) Ombrello, Kristine (Dick) Burgess, Gary (Ginny) Hager and Mark (Patti) Hager and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, some dear friends and his loving wife, Jill.
A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Murray’s Country View and Transition Assisted Living for taking care of Alan the last one and a half years.
Memorial donations in Alan’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital

    Such a nice man. I am so thankful that he & Jill met & had time together before her passing. He made her happy. My prayers & sympathy to his family

    Alan was also a charter member of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 237 I didn’t know him real well but what I did know is he was a nice man . Rest In Peace Brother
