I was sad to hear about Johnny’s passing. My memories of Johnny and his family take me back to the Hodag. It was such a great time getting to know the Johnson’s during those summer nights. It was nice to see Johnny’s faith mentioned in his obituary. May you look to the Lord during these difficult times. God bless, Johnny

    Janet,

(I am Tara Cook Stedry, Bill and Phyllis’ oldest daughter.)I searched the internet to find Johnny’s obiturary and found this site. I have vivid memories from my childhood regarding your family. I remeber being scared of Johnny and all your boys only to find that you all were kind and gentle people. I cried the night mom called about Johnny’s passing. I wanted to come to the funeral but mom said it was up north. I found out the night before about 9 pm. My husband Mike said that if we left right then, we still would not make it. I have thought of your family many times through out my life with fond memories.

We live in St. Johns, MI. When we first got here our two daughters were 1 and 3 yrs old. We met a couple that I now refer to as, “the Johnny and Janet” of my girls’ lives. It always makes mom laugh. Dennis is a truck driver – big and scary on the outside but a teddy bear on the inside. Eydie is the woman who has become Mike’s second mom.

I remember the bus dropping us off by your house because of the roads. I remember walking around the block at 1 am in the morning, knowing that we would get tired and get shoulder rides from your boys. Once, one of the boys (Randy, Mark or Brian) touched Dad’s ear with a weed and Dad thought a bat got him. I remember finding abandoned puppies across the road and Princess taking them in as her own. (I do not have my own St. Bernard yet, but I do have St. Bernard slippers and stuffed dog):)

I remember Steve being my first experince with a young persons death and not being able to understand why. There is so much more, but it is overwhelming. Love to you and your family!

This is my grandpa Johnson who I love so much and now he is not here.

The thing I remember the most is going in the truck with him and grandma and everywhere we went I ate spaghetti and meatballs.

And I am going to miss him saying there is my little Pocahontas and now i won’t hear him say that no more and every time we come here I will miss him so much and him because i will miss that.
