William “Bill” Joseph Godfrey Age 63, of Gladstone, passed away September 8, 2018 in his home.
Bill was born March 19, 1955, in Escanaba, MI, the son of Gerald and Lois (Olson) Godfrey.
Many friends may have known Bill better by his nickname “Red”. He graduated Gladstone Area High School, Class of 1973. After high school Bill served four years honorably in the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, CA. After returning home he worked for his father at Jerry’s Tree Service as well as driving semi for Godfrey Trucking, and numerous other trucking companies throughout the years. Bill was an active member of the American Legion Post #71 Gladstone for 40+ years. He was also an active member of the Marine Corps League, Upper Peninsula Detachment. He enjoyed honoring and remembering fellow Veterans by placing flags out on Memorial Day.
Bill is survived by his five children:
2 Daughters: Shannon Godfrey of Green Bay, WI. Billie Jo Godfrey of Minneapolis, MN.
3 Sons: Joseph Godfrey of Gladstone, MI.
Jacob Godfrey of Camp Lejeune, NC.
Jesse (Amanda) Godfrey of Camp Lejeune, NC. 3 Brothers: Donald, Patrick, and Michael Godfrey all of Gladstone, MI.
Sister: Geri Lynn Tiernan, of Mount Pleasant, MI. Numerous nieces and nephews & one granddaughter Brynlee Vann, Green Bay, WI.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Gutierrez of Gladstone, MI.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the American Legion Post #71 from 4pm-6pm on Friday, September 14, 2018. Military honors will be presented at 5pm by the Gladstone American Legion post 71. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes are assisting the Godfrey family.
