    Dear Aunt Bobby and family,

When we heard about Uncle Tom, it brought back so many memories of those last few months with Dad. Dad taught us so much, even while he was leaving us. Precious time together … that’s all we have on earth. We wish there was a way we could shelter you from the pain and sadness. The best we can do now is to honor our Dad. Although there is a great distance between Michigan and Kansas, we always heard kind words about Uncle Tom. He was a hard worker, he loved his family, he was faithful. What a great man. You all must be so proud of your Husband and Daddy. My mother misses Dad so much, even today. Their love was unbelievable … so strong and pure. There is nothing greater than to have been loved and to love one another. Mom dearly wanted to see Uncle Tom, however, her health didn’t allow that to happen. She is in the hospital again and is beginning to feel better. Mom and Uncle Tom loved one another and even though they couldn’t be together for over 14 years, without a doubt, you could feel that love from Mom when she talked about her brother Tom. Someday they will be together again, sister and brother, as love transcends all understanding. From our family and our mother, Mary, we pray that the Lord will bring you comfort and peace as you walk through this time of sadness … that you will feel the love of one another … and that you will have precious time together. With heartfelt sympathy and prayer,

We would like to say thank you to all who send in their memories of our Dad. It was a blessing to read each and every one of them. We also wish to say thank you to Lorraine who sent the beautiful yellow flower arraignment to Dad’s funeral. We did not het a full name or address from the card so we can not send out a proper thank you.

I will miss Grandpa very much, especially his great big hugs as soon as we walked in the door!

I have many memories I will hold onto forever. I loved the 4th of July parties when we all got together to visit and play cards. I always loved Grandpa’s garden tours. Walking past the raspberries was my favorite part. And who could forget Grandpa’s Ducks? Here Ducky, Ducky!

I know Grandpa will do the same in heaven as he did here…He will be watching out for us and give us each a Big Hug when ever we need one.

    He will be missed.
    I love you Grandpa!

Tom was a very loving brother and brother-in-law. He always made us feel welcome when we were able to visit in his home at Gladstone. His lawn was always well manicured and his flowers were beautiful. There were never any weeds in his productive garden. He always made the time to take you on little trips, even though he had seen the places many times. He knew we would enjoy seeing it too.

One of our memories is the fishing trip on Lake Michigan when a storm came up suddenly. The waves were very high. I got sick and Johnny says his handprint is still on the side of the boat. We made it to some island and waited out the storm. It’s one trip we will never forget.

We love you Tom and will miss the telephone calls.
    We will meet again.

Tom was my big brother. He was a very protective brother. He always watched out for me. He had a positive attitude. Tom was honest and everyone was his friend. I love him and will miss him very much.

My brother, Tom, had a heart of gold. He had no problem sharing his blessings from God. He was a generous, kind, and a very forgiving man. No matter what cruel thing was inflicted on him, he knew how to forgive and that takes a good man to do that. Tom had a heavy cross to carry and he carried it well.

Now in God’s Divine Mercy, He has come for Tom to take him out of all of that pain – to paradise in Heaven to be with God with nothing but perfect love, joy, happiness, and peace.

I talked to Tom by phone every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, for the last 4 1/2 years. It meant so much to him when someone called. I also received blessings from these phone calls. Tom has always been there for me. I remember well when I was 13 and Tom came home on furlough from the Air Force. He made me feel so special, validated, and important.

I will miss Tom terribly and he will always be in my heart.

Tom send that peach dove, God willing.

We are so sorry to hear of your dad passing. He was a very hard working man and I always admired him for having the foster home and all of his own children to care for. He was truly blessed and so was his family. Even though we will not be able to attend the funeral, know that all our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this time and have peace in your hearts knowing that He is in the Lords arms and couldn’t be any safer or have more peace.

    God Bless

Uncle Tom~ What a wonderful, generous and loving man! When I think of Uncle Tom, I am reminded of many happy times and how his smile and voice could make one feel so special. Shelton, our girls, my Mom and I once had the opportunity of a lifetime to vacation to Gladstone, MI. August 1994 to visit Uncle Tom and his family. We would have been happy just to stay there but Uncle Tom had it all planned out and so off we went in the motor home to make some incredible treasured memories for which we are all most grateful! Uncle Tom had so much to show us and we were so blessed for that time together. I remember just being in awe of the beauty that surrounded their home……all of the flowers and the huge vegetable garden and the beautiful Lake Michigan in their very own backyard (and of course the “island” that he jokingly sold my Mom). Truly, a piece of heaven on earth! Uncle Tom was a strong man with a soft heart full of love. I treasure the memories I have of Uncle Tom and his siblings. There was (is and always shall be)a very special bond between all of them…….they know how to show love and have fun too! May Uncle Tom rest now in God’s Perfect and Loving Peace.

    With our love and sympathy~

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Tom Hartman. We shall hold precious all the memories we have of Mr. Hartman dating back to the late 1960’s. Mr. Hartman leaves a very caring and supporting family of whom we have been friends with for many years and especially his loving daughter Deb.

I wanted to express my deepest sympathies to Bobbie & the Hartman family. My daughter, Laycee, and I once lived with Tom & Bobbie – as their renters. I first knew Tom as a kid. If I remember right, Tom and my uncle (Robert Bricker) had a huge garden together in my parent’s yard on Blackwell Ave. After my uncle died, Tom kept a garden at his home. He would always bring HUGE amounts of fresh vegetables to my parents. He had a good heart! It turns out that many years later I would meet Tom again. I remember feeling nervous to ask if I could rent the downstairs apartment at their Lake Shore Dr. home. Tom and Bobbie immediately put me at ease, and did in fact let us stay. We have many fond memories living there. Laycee remembers “helping Mr. Hartman in his garden”. Tom was very sweet to allow her to tag along behind him. She would “help” him weed and “help” him pick things out of his garden, and even “help” him to move landscaping rocks – which she was gently told to put back. Tom seemed to be a quiet man and he never got short with his little helper. We also felt very included in their family gatherings on the 4th of July, even stopping by once after we moved away to Marquette. Laycee and I appreciate the kindness that Tom and Bobbie showed us. We were sad to hear of his passing. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Aunt Bobbie, Dave, Debbie, Bill, Dale, Susy, Bruce, Darlene (Princess) & families,

I am very sorry for the loss of you husband, father and grandfather. Although we know Uncle Tom is in heaven now and without any pain it is still very hard to let him go. I know mom wanted so very much to see him again but her health hasn’t allowed her to do that. It has been a long time since I’ve seen Uncle Tom but I will always remember him as a very happy helpful uncle. Those times that we were together seemed to be a much simpler time. Our prayers are with you during this time and the days ahead. Just know that my dad probably already has him in a pitch game and is telling how he should have played that last hand! I’m sure they are having a great time! Love to all of you. Vicky

(Darlene, did you know that we grew up thinking your real name was Princess! That was what your dad always called you.)

My Uncle Tom always lived in Michigan in my memory, having moved there before I was born in 1960. His heart was always for family and faith. When he left Kansas, he took his farming skills with him — even in the frozen earth of Michigan he could grow abundant gardens — full of vegetables and beautiful flowers.

I will always remember the card games of my childhood, and especially those of recent years — there is no better fun, no more laughter than cards with Uncle Tom, Aunt Helen, Aunt Mary, Uncle Johnny, Mom, and Uncle LeRoy. I learned some important family stories and life lessons at those games. We thank God for the gift of Uncle Tom and for the love and joy he brought to all of our lives. We love you Uncle Tom and will miss you until we meet again.
