I have a lot of fond memories of Ted. He certainly could be a surly, sarcastic guy but always having fun with it. He was a work horse! If you were working on something at camp when he stopped by he would jump right in and help until the job was done. Many a time we would be at camp telling stories and shooting the bull when you would hear a truck start only to look out the window and see Teds taillight heading out the drive, he would often leave without saying a word, that was his way.

One of our favorite Ted stories we like to tell around camp is about the time in the spring when we all went out to camp Hard Way to visit Ted but he wasn’t there. While we were there we noticed some mushrooms around the apple trees so we picked them. After getting back to Four Shots camp, drinking a few beers, Ted rolls in stays for a while then says he has to go to camp he has some mushrooms coming up that should ready to pick… no one said a word but I am sure he didn’t find any mushrooms that day. We have told a lot of people that story but I don’t think we ever told Ted.

We are going to miss you Theo but you will always be with us at camp Weenie!

Rock has lost another pillar of the community. Our hearts go out to the Winkelbauer families during this difficult time. Please accept our deepest condolences.

The first time I met Ted he burst into our camp at hunting season and yelled hello with a big grin on his face. His entrance was startling and I asked who that guy was? Someone replied that was Ted Winklebauer. From that point on he would never be forgotten. He soon became one of the people I always looked forward to seeing upon returning to camp. He always told good stories, great jokes, and an occasional poke at one or all of us. Over the years Theo became a camp regular. He was eager to help on projects or lend wise advise. He also worked up food plots and planted apple trees. We used to throw sticks into the pond and his trusty lab dove in after them. Ted hated when she did that because he smelled wet dog all the way home. We all looked forward to the off season photos of camp that he email us. We shared many hours with Theo around our kitchen table solving the problems of the world. Theo is a person that will never be forgotten and will always bring a warm smile to friends when ever he is thought of.

Gary, so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad…I got to know him while I worked at Sall-Mar..he would come in and clean the machines…very nice. It’s so hard to lose a parent. My sympathies to you and your family. Sandy Johnson

Such a privilege to have met Ted. He always could make me smile, laugh, and feel like a lifelong friend. God bless him, family and friends. He brought a special light to my days.

Ted… what a guy! I feel privileged to be able to call him my friend. He was fun to be around with his quick wit and and humor. Ted loved camp and the outdoors and would always want to help out with any camp projects! I could always expect help during maple syrup season and enjoyed a beer while Ted had his Kesslers with tepid water! He had many sayings but the one we all can laugh at is “every once in a while you have to say what the ….! ” I sure will miss him. John Skellenger
