Steven J. Hughes, age 77, of Gladstone passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Steve was born September 11, 1946 in Allegan, Michigan, the son of Steven A. Hughes and Kathryn Waite. He was raised in Allegan and graduated from the Allegan High School in 1964. He attended Western Michigan University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1968. He also attended Central Connecticut State College where he received a Master’s of Science Degree in 1973. He was certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Cytotechnologist in 1980. He was united in marriage to Sherry St. John on September 21, 1985. He worked as a quality assurance manager for Lakeside Machine Company and VanAire for many years. Steve really enjoyed playing tennis and won many trophies over the years. He also enjoyed photography, traveling throughout the United States with his wife and loved his dog, Missy.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sherry, his children, Cindy (Ray) Myers, Todd Poupore, Marci (Don) Robison and Renee (Bill) Bartell, grandchildren, Emily (Paul) Davis, Adam Kirschner, Zachary and Brooke Robison, Dustin and Drew Bartell and Felicia (Steve) Thone, great grandchildren, Arianna, Liam, Landon and Adrianne and his brother, Dan (Kathy) Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott and his parents.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 16 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.
Steve will be laid to rest in the Spalding Township Cemetery in Spalding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Neurology Research for Parkinson’s or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
