Steven Hilding Helgemo, 58, resident of the Pine Haven Adult Foster Care Home in Gladstone, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.

Steven was born June 25, 1955 in Escanaba, the son of Gilbert and Elsie (Skoglund) Helgemo. He was raised in Gladstone and graduated from the Gladstone High School in 1974. Steven worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and as a part time carpenter. He was Lutheran by faith and loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Steven is survived by his son, Daniel Helgemo of Bakersfield, CA; his daughter, Kristen Helgemo of Illinois; brother, Dennis (Mary) Helgemo of Gladstone; sister, Sandy Helgemo of Escanaba; half brother, Dale DeGrave of Bark River; aunt, Barb Helgemo of Escanaba; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17 from 3 to 5 pm. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Peggy Rose officiating. Steven will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.

    we are so sorry paryers go out to everyone. i loved steve so much we had a lot of fun at your parents cottage and aunt betty cottage as well as at your home. memorys will always be with me . he is in heaven now with his parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles and our little angel richard we was born asleep 7-11 as weel.love you all

    Dennis, Sandy and Family,I am so sorry for the loss of your dear brother. I have known Steve as a neighbor, friend and resident at Pine Haven. He was such a nice guy, always appreciative and kind. I will sure miss him even his teasing me when I had a birthday 2 weeks before him, he always caught up to me though. I have a lot of fond memories of Steve. May he rest in peace. God Bless you all.

    I remember growing up with Steve. We were so young loved to go to Jims Little store for ice cream. His life so short and many tough breaks. Im glad hes at peace and up in heaven with family. I remember visiting my mom and going and picking him up to get him out while he was at Darryls on lake. Will miss him my regrets to His family and Dennis and Sandra and April and her family.
