It brings a smile to my face to remember dear Sr Martha and her authority at Catholic Central back in the mid 70s. Even the teachers’ lounge was tidy and professional or you’d hear about it! What a caring and generous lady whom we’re all so fortunate to have known. Peace to the family who has brought us all so much.

I was taught by Sister Martha Jean at Marinette Catholic Central 1978-1982. It has been quite a few years, but I will always remember her enthusiasm for teaching. I can thank her for my love of fine chocolate. I remember we would sneak in before school and she would sell us candy from the back room!!! We now have another angel watching over us. Rest in Peace Sister Martha Jean, you are not forgotten!

Sister Martha Jean was a delight to work with at Marinette Catholic Central. Working together, we started MCC Fine Arts Festival back in ’78. Her students artwork decorating the halls and the gym made the school radiant. One of my fond memories was when she arranged a staff “in-service” to tour the Sayklly Factory in Escanaba. Her smile couldn’t help but spread cheer. Thank you Sr. Martha Jean. You brightened many lives.

My name is Suzanne and I am a 1980 graduate of Marinette Catholic Central. I have such fond memories of Sister Martha Jean. She was my art teacher and she made such a difference in my life. I enjoyed her class so much. She was such a nice lady and will be missed. The funny thing is that I thought about her about a month ago. I was at a tour of Catholic Central and we were talking about how we loved her class.

Sr Martha Jean was my 6th grade teacher at St. Joseph Grade School. I remember her as a no nonsense teacher. But, more than that, I remember the art lessons. Probably because I wasn’t any good at it. Christmas of that year we made styrofoam mangers with a baby Jesus from Sayklly’s (where else?). At that time my family had a dog, who took a liking to styrofoam and chewed my manger, but had the good sense not to chew baby Jesus. I am still using that same baby Jesus in my nativity set at Christmas. Thank you Sister.

We have missed seeing Sister at school Mass and functions. She always brought taffy as treats. I loved to hear her stories about her family and how she became a nun. May God have a special art room for her in heaven!
