Sandra Lee Groleau, age 69, of 3672 21st Road, Gladstone, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening December 26, 2013 of an apparent heart attack at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Sandra was born May 21, 1944 in Escanaba the daughter of Leo and Beatrice (Saul) Therrien. She was raised in Flat Rock and Escanaba and she was a 1962 graduate of Holy Name Catholic High School. Following graduation, Sandra worked at the Northern Service Bureau in Escanaba. Sandra was united in marriage to Norman Young on November 30, 1963 and they resided in North Carolina and Gwinn while Norman was stationed in the United States Air Force. They settled in Flat Rock where they raised their children. Norman preceded her in death in 1993. She married Gary Groleau on May 27, 1995 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2009.

    To Sandy’s family: I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock about this. What a terrific woman and friend and mentor I had in Sandy. She got me my first job and showed me good work ethics. Not only that but she was a terrific friend. I loved her very much. I am so sorry and am sorry I will be unable to make it as my brother-in-law passed. You will always be in my prayers and thoughts.

    As an exhibitor at the UP State Fair, Sandy was always my go to gal! I looked forward to seeing her smiling friendly face or hearing her welcoming, caring tone on the phone. She will be missed.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Sandy’s family. Sandy and I shared an email friendship for years. I live in Virginia, and she helped me enter my photographs in the U.P State Fair competition. In 2012, I was able to actually meet Sandy at the Fair office and we shared coffee and laughter that morning. Her spirit, helpfulness and kindness will be greatly missed.

    Sandy will be greatly missed. She has been our go to person whenever we had a problem before or during the U.P. Fair. during the many years our children and grandchildren showed there. She always had a smile on her face and was ready to help.

    To the loving members of Sandy’s family, our deepest sympathies in your loss, please know that we thought the world of her and will miss a “great” aunt, friend and “sister”. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

    You all have our deepest sympathy on the passing of your Mom/Grandma/Partner! We’re still in a bit of shock as Monica had just talked to Sandy on the phone a couple of weeks ago & she was busy with all the grandkids’ activities & looking so forward to traveling to AZ with John after Christmas…. We are so sorry for your loss! Sandy & Gary did their best to make us feel at home when we moved to the UP in 2002 & they were even the first ones to visit Raven after his 3 weeks in the NICU! After my car accident in 2010, Sandy was the first one to visit after I came home from Appleton bringing birthday cake, ice cream & gifts!
    Those are just a few of the really wonderful memories we share of Sandy & we know you have tons more that will help you through this time! Hug each other for us & know we’re keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

    I will never forget Sandy’s beautiful smile and warm greetings as I grew up knowing her first as a 4-Her at the UP State Fair, and then as a friend in my adult years. Her service to her community wasn’t her job, but rather her life style for which many of us in the agricultural community have been forever changed. The good Lord has called home a beautiful woman that will only continue to radiate joy to those around her. Rest in Peace, Sandy.

    One of the nicest and sweetest people I’ve ever met; she felt more like a sister than an aunt. So glad I got to see her one last time in October. My condolences to those who loved her. She will be missed.

    I am heart sick to learn of Sandy’s passing. She and I worked together at the Fair for about 20 years, and she became a very valued friend. Sandy was one of the nicest people in my life, and my heart goes out to her family. She will be truly missed

    Sandy and I went to Holy Name together a long time ago. We made a lot of good memories. Please accept my sympathy and prayers for your great loss.

    I am so very sad to hear of Sandy’s passing. I worked with Sandy at the Department of Agriculture and considered her a true friend. She will be missed. My condolences to the family.
