Rosalie “Roe” M. Alworden, age 88, of Gladstone, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Rosalie was born on January 23, 1933, in Escanaba, the daughter of Louis and Eleanor (Royer) Brock. She was raised and also lived in Kipling for her whole life. Roe was a graduate of the class of 1950 from Gladstone High School. On August 13, 1955, Rosalie was united in marriage to Ray Alworden at All Saints Church in Gladstone. Together, they spent many wonderful years together.

Rosalie started her working career at Mead Paper Company, working in the office. She stopped working to raise her children, Terry, Patti, and Debbie. Later in life, she went to work at various local grocery stores. Roe was a devoted parishioner of All Saints Church, former member of the Gladstone Yacht Club, and also the Gladstone Golf Course.

She treasured spending time with family, and watching her grandchildren play sports over the years. She looked forward to playing cards every week with her lady friends. She also loved to knit and crochet, play bingo, go to the casino, and watch the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers. Most recently, she really enjoyed playing games on her iPad. She will be truly missed by so many.

Rosalie is survived by her children, Terry (Kim) Alworden, Patti (Pete) Stropich, and Debbie Edwardsen, all of Gladstone, sister Cindy (Terry) McDonough of Gladstone, grandchildren Rachel (Blayne Sheppard) Alworden, Brandon (Jamie) Alworden, Jessica (Ryan) St. John, Joe (Katie) Stropich, Jenae Edwardsen, and Ashley Edwardsen, great-grandchildren Kenzie and Eisele St. John, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

My wife and I try every year while visiting in Gladstone to stop in to visit Roe at her home in Kipling. Last Sunday the 25th of July was no exception. We visited for about hour and although Roe appeared tired she looked GREAT !! We live in Richfield, MN and I sign in to read the Daily Press everyday. I was shocked to read that Roe had passed away.
