Roland and I hunted together for many years. He was a unique person. Fun to be with. A real patriot. He will be missed by many.M

Grandpa, it’s been a long time, but you will be truly missed. Lots of memories of us coming up for a week in the summer. Fishing trips on your boat. Fishing at the river, I was so excited when you got the 4wheeler and we rode that on your property. My favorite memory is when we came up for Labor Day and I helped you work at the gun show, and made the posters for it. You said you got some pretty handwriting. I helped you all weekend just us two. We had some good times, when I got to ride with you in the 4th of July parade in bark river. When we always got to the cottage you we’re sitting on the picnic table waiting for us. I love you Grandpa

    Hey Buddy,
Like you used to say “John Glenn ain’t got nothing over on you” Rest is peace Roland. You’ve lived a great life.

    Good bye grandpa ❤️
I hope it wasn’t painful and I hope you didn’t suffer. I know we weren’t close and you didn’t actually care for me very much., but I love you anyways…. Peace be with you old man. My love.

So sorry for your loss!! He was an awesome guy!!! He will be missed! From Steve Soderman and Sodermans meat processing!!

Rolland and my Father, Elmer Turnquist, were across the street Bark River Neighbors and I got to know Rolland through my father; they had coffee together almost daily for many many years until Elmer’s death in 2007. After his death, Rolland and I would correspond via long distance telephone calls, many of which listed for several hours.

As time progressed, Rolland moved to Escanaba to be with his long time friend, companion and eventual caregiver, Ann Marie Lemieux; she was instrumental in keeping him with her throughout his long protracted medical status, including hospice where he succumbed in her home on June 16, 2025. Ann promised Rolland that she would never place him in a nursing convalescence facility and kept true to this promise.

In summary, Dixie (my wife) and I have many many fond memories of Rolland including but not limited to:
His very colorful SPEECH as special word choices and phrases,
His great booming voice and laugh,
His skill in Timber Management, ie., felling trees, cutting fire wood, splitting fire wood and stacking fire wood,
His meticulous manicuring of his lawn and trees,
And, his loving friendship to my father, Elmer Turnquist

Rolland, your work is done now.
Rest in Peace and Tranquility while God is carefully watching over your soul…
    Sincerely,
    Gilbert Turnquist

Rest in peace my friend, I’m sorry
    I didn’t keep I touch. Thanks Ann
Marie for being his person. God Bless
    You! Your friend, Ellen
