Robert LeRoy Young Sr. age 77, of 1714 Lake Shore Drive, Gladstone, MI passed away early Saturday morning July 24, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Robert was born March 30, 1927 the son of William and Sophia (Baker) Young of Gladstone. He entered the Navy at the age of 17 and served in WW II and returned to graduate from the Gladstone High School class of 1948. He was a member of the 1946 State Championship football team. He wore the jersey #10, later worn by his son and grandson.
Bob was employed by MeadWestvaco Papers Group retiring in 1987 as a Superintendant of #3 machine. He was a member of the Mead 25 year club. Bob was the past commander of the American Legion Post #71 and member of the 1964 State Championship Drill Team. He was also a longtime member of the Gladstone Yacht Club and volunteer fireman for a number of years. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing,bowling, card playing and spending time with his family and friends. He was Methodist by faith but was a frequent attendee of All Saints Catholic Church with his wife Judy.
Survivors include: Wife Judy (Dereski) whom he married on February 12,1972
