Robert L. Johnson, age 77, former Curtis, Michigan resident, and also formerly of Northwoods Assisted Living of Escanaba, died Monday, April 12th, 2004 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette where he was currently residing.
Bob was born March 8th, 1927 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Olaf and Nettie (Thompson) Johnson and was raised in Cloquet, MN. After his high school graduation, he attended college and he completed his academic studies at the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a degree in psychology. Bob entered the US Army during the World War II era and was later honorably discharged as an MP after his completed tour of duty.
He subsequently married the former Jean Ann Mickelson and she preceded him in death. Bob was also preceded in death by his second wife, the former Zola Kaiser.
Bob lived in various locations, including Whittier, CA, Marquette, and Newberry. He had also lived in Curtis for a number of years before relocating to Escanaba 5 years ago.
Most of his working career was spent at the Newberry State Hospital as a social worker and later as Director of Community Relations for the hospital until his retirement. Bob was known by family and friends as a highly intelligent individual and of independent nature.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bob at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center in the 1970’s. He was a great guy! My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
