Robert J. Cannon, age 73, of 3610 8th Avenue South; Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he was recently a patient.
Robert was born June 6th, 1936, in Escanaba, the son of James and Tillie and (Schrock) Cannon, was raised and has resided much of his years in the Gladstone area.
During much of his working life, Robert was employed as a carpenter in the construction field. In addition, he worked in other occupations, including employment with the local paper mill and with the railroad. Hunting and playing pool were some of his favorite past-times and enjoyments.

I was sorry to hear of Bob’s death. I had not seen him for some time, but we used to encounter each other at the grocery store in Rapid, and would have a chat, usually about memories from childhood…and what was happening in the woods. We Sinclairs always appreciated our Cannon connections. God bless you all.

Bob and I were close friends for almost 30 years. We’ve shot alot of pool together (either at our favorite tavern or in my basement). We played cards on a weekly basis with both of us keeping score. Bob was a very competitive sportman. Durring the summer months we would go to Gladstone or Escanaba and watch the senior boys baseball tournaments. Bob and I are both Detroit Tiger fans. During Football season, we watched alot of games together, Bob was a Packer fan and I a Lion fan. I am extremely greatful to Keith Virgo and Ray Walker for taking Bob and I to the Packer/Lion game in October. Keith had won suite tickets to the game and invited Bob and I to come along. Bob was very jubilant that he was able to watch his favorite team from a luxury box seat.
Bob was also close to my Dad Art who passed away in March of this year. Bob often helped celebrate Art or Josie’s birthday by attending a luncheon at Hong Kong buffett or Ferdinands Mexican restaurant. Whenever Bob would visit and Art was over, they managed to squeeze in a game of pool or two. My Dad and I attended several cookouts at Bob’s camp in Rapid River and always enjoyed watching the deer come in. I will miss my friend Bob a great deal and I know that Bob and my Dad Art are organizing a pool and poker party getting it ready for when I go to join them.
