Rita B. Shannon, age 89, died Saturday April 23 at her assisted living residence in Port Orange Florida where she was a resident for the last 27 months. Rita was born on December 3, 1923 in Escanaba and the daughter of John and Edna (Dubord) Pepin.
Rita was 8th in the line of 12 children. After attending Escanaba High School, Rita earned an Degree in Education at Eastern Michigan University. She spent a lot of time with three deaf cousins and was inspired to later become a teacher of the deaf. She worked many jobs during college and paid her own way.
