Rita Mae Maskart, age 75, of 9113 513T Road, Stonington, passed away unexpectedly Easter Sunday morning April 20th, 2014 at home of an apparent heart attack.

Rita was born June 25, 1938 in Flat Rock, MI the daughter of Wilfred and Laura (Roberts) Richer. She was raised in Flat Rock and graduated from Holy Name High School, class of 1958. Rita was united in marriage to Michael Maskart on January 7, 1961 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. They made their home in Kipling and later in Gladstone where they raised their 3 sons.

    Mike and Family,We are so very sorry to hear of Rita’s passing..she was a wonderful,caring women and I remember when you lived in Gladstone my Grandfather Bill lived in your home and he was treated very well! I will never forget her she was a wonderful lady! and a great cook. May you hold all the wonderful memories close to your hearts! God Bless

    So sorry for your loss Mike and kids. I remember Rita for so many years with my ex in-laws, and she spoiled my kids when ever they were there. She always saved the best candy for them on Halloween, which they thoroughly enjoyed! All the parties, fun, games and GREAT food on Fourth of July! You were surely one of a kind, Rita. You will be missed terribly by me and especially my children, Nicole and Jeremy Valencic, but I know you left a lasting impression on both of them of how life should be lived, to the fullest!

    Aunt Rita, I will miss you so much. The meals, cards and the stories. It was always a guaranteed time to laugh when we were with you. You were not a single person but you were a presence. I made chocolate chip cookies for you today. I was laughing one second and crying the next. You were larger that life. Thank you for teaching me to accept everyone for the way they are and live to the fullest. Love you

    I’m very sad to hear about the passing of Rita. She was my favorite! My Grandma Eileen would always bring us kids to her home in Gladstone where she always had Push Up Popsicles. We went out to her beautiful home in Stonington many times to swim and celebrate 4th of July. I was a “waitress” for many of their card parties and enjoyed every moment with her and her friends. She will be sadly missed. My condolences go out to her family/friends.

    Mike and Family, my heart is so heavy, hearing about the loss of your dear Rita. She was so full of energy and sure could make a person laugh! I will miss picking blueberries, canning and baking with her. She will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Rita

    Mike and family,I was shocked and saddened to read of Rita’s sudden passing. My sadness gave way to smiles remembering how much fun she always was. I and some other ladies used to play bingo with the residents in Gladstone. I can’t remember a time when she wasn’t cooking or baking, or both, and she loved it. Those she took into her home were so blessed to be there. She was the most kind and caring person, funny stories kept us laughing all the time. I met her and Mike in Jack’s last fall and she told me about how she invited a bunch of people over for breakfast for blueberry pancakes, she had forgotten it was Sunday and she had to miss church! She made my heart smile every time I was with her. She’s one of a kind, and I’ll always remember her with fondest memories. I pray these same memories help get you through your sorrow in losing such a special and loved lady. My deepest sympathy to all her family. You are in my prayers.

    I’m sorry to hear of my cousin Rita’s passing. I had fond memories of her and her parents, sisters, and brothers on the Richer Family farm. She was so fun at the annual snowmobile races. We will miss her laughter and hospitality. Love to all the family. Novalene & Warren Bovin
