Richard L. “Rick” Viau, age 69, of Escanaba passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Richard was born May 18, 1950 in Escanaba, the son of Wallace and Violet (Constantineau) Viau. He was raised in Escanaba and graduated from the Escanaba High School. Richard was a kind and gentle person. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a selfless person that would give anything to anybody and was always thinking about others before himself. He would bring gifts almost daily for his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Christine.

Richard is survived by his mother, Violet Butterbough of Jacksonville, FL; his children, Christine (Chris) Szlamczynski of Marinette, WI, Tom Viau of Hyde and John (Jody) Viau of Quinnesec; grandchildren, Justin, Kelsey, Colin, Bryce, Abbie, Brock, Jacob, Joshua and Jenna; great grandchildren, Jason and Josie; siblings, Roger Viau of Cornell, Tim Viau of Pensecola, FL, Carolyn Tomak of Gary, IN and Julie Viau of Jacksonville, FL and a nephew, Wally Viau.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services for Richard will be forthcoming and will be announced by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.

    As Ricks half sister I can say, he was always a sweet person. He had many trials and challenges in his life but kept his sense of humor. He will be missed. RIP my brother. Tom and I send our condolences to the family, especially my siblings Roger and Toots. Also our mother Violet and Rick’s daughter Christine. Hugs and prayers to you all.

    Richard – my brother – rest in peace now. A sweet little chubby cheeked boy. A loving young father of three little children – bringing so much joy and happiness to you. Let us always remember that precious time of your life – the very best part. You are forever in my heart.
    And many thanks to any and all who showed kindness and compassion to Richard as he lived with so many struggles for the last nearly 40 years of his life.
