Rev. Ellen L. Jensen, age 80, of 1325 Wisconsin Avenue, Gladstone, passed away Wednesday October 17, 2012 at the Northwoods Assisted Living Facility in Escanaba where she was currently residing.

Ellen was born June 27, 1932 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Robert H. and Dolores (Melcher) Roueche. She was raised in Northbrook where she graduated from high school, then went on to attend college at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.

Ellen was united in marriage to Robert Jensen on June 27, 1952 in Northbrook, IL and they later moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1955. She worked at Flat Rock Elementary School for several years where she worked in the kitchen and as a teacher

    Our Prayers go out to the Jensen family on the loss of your Mom. What a great lady and very active in our church. I remember her visiting and sitting and praying over my Mom for hours when she was in her last days at my parents home. This gesture meant so much to my family. God Bless you and we will all miss her.

    Ellen was a member of our Flatrock birthday club.Sweetest woman by far. We sure missed seeing her when
    she went to assisted living. You all know what a wonderful
    Mother you had.

    Rev. Ellen Jensen…..what a beautiful person. Her love of our Lord was always evident in every aspect of her life! I am truly blessed for having known her! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and relatives. She is now…..HOME! Amen!

    Dear Dave, I am sorry old friend for the loss of your mother. You are in my prayers. You and Sara take care, Your daughter must really be growing up since the last time I saw her.

    I first met Ellen when I was doing work-study as a senior in high school as a librarian at Lemmer. She made me feel welcome and a part of the Lemmer family.

    I see that I’m not the only former student of “Mrs. Jensen” to feel compelled to pay tribute to her! I had the good luck of having her as a teacher in the 3rd AND 5th grades at Lemmer. She was the first teacher — to my memory — who made me feel valued and smart. I was 100% tomboy, and I felt overlooked by some teachers, and felt labeled as a trouble maker by one or two others. I wasn’t the only kid in my class that she made to feel special, who maybe wasn’t recognized by other teachers; she also lifted the spirits of my classmate Mike, who wasn’t the best student academically. I sat next to him, and I remember his HUGE smile every time she praised him. She figure out his strengths (if I remember correctly, he was quite an artist), and constantly encouraged him. Besides being a caring teacher, I also have to mention John Denver; I think of her every time I hear one of his songs! She’d throw one of his records on while we worked, and we learned all the words (which I still remember!). Amazing how music and memory correspond. She also organized square dancing lessons for our class, which is a funny memory and has occasionally come in handy. In short, Mrs. Jensen is fondly remembered and appreciated, and I hope that this message reaches her family and friends and that they smile, as I do, every time they think of her and the fun, memorable times she created.

    Dan, Your mom was a very special lady and loved by everyone who knew her. Please know that we share in your grief and extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family.

    Thank you so much for sharing the memories! It means a lot to us.

    Ellen was one of the most gentle and faithfilled women I knew. She touched my heart in many ways and I know she blessed everyone who knew her. She will be missed and I know that God has a special place for her. You are all in my prayers. God bless you and may her spirit live on in all of you. I know she will always smile down on you with great love.

    I had the honor of doing Miss Ellens hair at the Clip Art Gallery. She was a wonderful person, and always had a kind word for me and my family. She will be missed…………

    Mrs. Jensen taught me self confidence at a time when I had very little. I feel my success today is a direct result of lessons I learned from her in my youth. Thank you very much, you will be missed.

    I will always consider it a privilege and honor to have been a small part of your Mom’s life, and she will be fondly remembered as a gracious, gentle–lovely sister in Christ. My thoughts and prayers are with you all–and I look forward to seeing her again someday, God willing.

    To the entire Jensen family,What a truley fitting description of your mother & grandmother. She was such a wonderfully warm and gentle person. She affected the lives of so many in such a positive manner that she will be missed by countless others. We are remembering her smile during these difficult times.

    Dear Rob, Julie, Ray, David, Laura, Jane, and Dan,
    May you find comfort as a family during this difficult time. Your mother touched so many from so many different walks of life. Her obituary was a reflection of her legacy yet so much she did was done silently just being ” Ellen”. She was a model I am proud and blessed to have known. The circle of her life will continue to carry on.

    To the family and friends who gather to remember, celebrate and give thanks for the one named Ellen Jensen.
    As the Director of Bay Area Campus Ministry and on behalf of the BACM Board, we lament the end of Ellen’s life because she truly was a blessing for all who knew her. To be specific, Ellen was one of the longest serving members of the BACM board. For six years, she served as Board President. Even more significant, she coordinated and scheduled the host of churches that provided a free meal on Monday nights for Bay students and staff. During her 15 years of service, she oversaw the serving of some 23,000 meals. What a legacy!

    Such service grew out of her commitment and devotion to the Lord. It was always done with gladness and gratitude. It is that sort of witness which has enabled BACM to be a truly unique outreach on behalf of the whole Church. It is also the reason we at BACM give thanks to God for the opportunity we had to know and serve with her. May God continue to bless and comfort those of you who miss her the most.

    Ellen was a friend to all. I remember with great fondness our many times at the Roueche home gathered around the piano when we were in high school. Our last trip to Colorado was wonderful with our dear high school friends. She will be missed.
