Phoebe A. Sidbeck, age 98, of the Christian Park Village in Escanaba (formerly of Gladstone) died Tuesday morning January 18, 2005 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.
Phoebe was born October 1, 1906 in Blaney, MI the daughter of Archie and Margaret (Young) Belanger. Her family moved to Gladstone in 1916 and Phoebe attended Gladstone Schools. She was employed for many years at the Busy B Restaurant in Gladstone. She later received her L.P.N. Nursing Degree in Marquette and had worked as a nurse at the Wood V.A. Hospital in Milwaukee, the Iron Mountain VA in Iron Mountain and also at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She also did private duty nursing for the homebound and at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone and her hobbies included crocheting, picking blueberries and cooking for her family. She was a great story teller and her grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoyed listening to her talk about her days growing up in the Great Depression Era.

1 Sister: Janie Ward of Gladstone
3 Grandchildren: Janice (Kennie) Graham of St. Clair Shores, MI; Claudia (Ed) Phillips of East Pointe, MI; Wayne (Nancy) Hitch of St. Clair Shores, MI
7 Great Grandchildren, 8 Great Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including Eleanor “Babe” Mattson who Phoebe considered like a daughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by:
1st husband: Rueben Hitch in 1966; 2nd husband: Elmer Sidbeck in 1987; Son: Claude Hitch in 1987; 2 Brothers: Elmer and Jr. Belanger; 2 Sisters: Nettie Fraid and Irene Coppock
Phoebe’s family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Phoebe A. Sidbeck will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Stephen Patrick of Grace Baptist Church officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 2:45 P.M. at the Cadillac Memorial East Cemetery in Clinton Township, MI.

To Phoebes family and friends. My wife and I extend our most sincere symphathies on the death of my aunt. I am the oldest living son of Signe Sidbeck and Magnus Johnson. Elmer Sidbeck was my mother’s oldest brother. Our condolences again.
