12 Tributes for “Paul Hammond

I will forever remember Uncle Paul with a huge smile… He was so fun, funny, kind, and loving. I have many special memories of him; Once, when I was a small child, he caught me taking chewing gum out of a packet on the counter, and I kept unwrapping piece after piece and savoring it. He cautioned me with his pointer finger and said, “One,” and I proceeded to remove each piece from my mouth and put it back into the package under his watchful eye. He didn’t want me to get sick or choke on having too much gum! When my family lived in Escanaba during my freshman year of high school, I was honored to have him as my English teacher. We each sent each other Valentine hearts delivered to his classroom for a fundraiser for the school – he always made me feel cared for and special. I’ll cherish memories of the 4th of July fireworks parties that he and Aunt Judy hosted at their house and his culinary talent he so generously shared. My greatest sympathies are with Aunt Judy, Brian, Dawn, Mike, Shanna, all the Grandchildren, and my parents Mike & Geri and Aunt Diane & Uncle George who all held Uncle Paul close to their hearts and loved him deeply.

I remember Paul as a great and interesting English teacher at EAHS. I then got to work with him when I worked at the Terrace. I wish the family peace in the memories they have of this great man.

Dear Judy and Family, We send our sympathy to you and your family. John and are sorry we never got to see you while in Gladstone, but remember our fun times we did share. May God Bless and comfort you and the family. Paul was a fun guy.Sending Love and Prayers. Pat and John Yirsa, 223 Barrington Circle, Lansing, MI 48917. We now live by our kids after 25 years in FL. Its great!

Paul and I grew up together. While growing up, we hunted, fished, and ate together. As we got older, we grew closer. We had family reunions with our sister, Diane, who lives in California. When we would get together, it seemed like no time had passed since our last get together. He truly enjoyed life, family and friends. When I was in town, he would invite me to his weekly breakfasts with his group of friends. He was my brother, and I will miss him.

Mr. Hammond you were truly an inspiration to your students, family and friends. What an amazing impact you have made. I wish I would have gotten to know “you” better but I have lived away. I do know and love your wonderful son Brian and my beautiful sister Dawn and Keaton. They truly model the love you have for them. You will be missed.

I first met “Mr. Hammond” in 9th grade English at Esky High in 1965. It may even have been his first year teaching. He was a great English teacher and had some interesting stories to tell. I also enjoyed working with him at the Terrace when going to Bay. Lots of good memories. My sympathies to his family.

I remember Mr. Hammond as my teacher at EAHS. His smile reminded me a little of Davy Jones from the Monkees! 🙂 Sending thoughts of comfort and support!

Mr. Hammond was one of my favorite English teachers while studying at EHS. He was funny, supportive, fun, kind, and just an overall great person. He will be greatly missed. RIP.

I remember so much about Mr. Hammond’s English class. I still have the journal he had us write in every day. Then, I had the privilege of waitressing at the Terrace for three summers while I attended college. I learned quite a few tricks about cooking from him- like seasoning and broiling fish and lobster. I don’t know how he had the energy to do that after teaching Freshmen all week! I also learned a lot about waitressing from Judy! So many great memories of working with such a great crew!
He was a special person. I was blessed to have had him as a teacher and mentor.
Love and prayers to Judy and family.
