Michael P. Bruntjens, age 76, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, June 26, 2022 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

 

Michael was born April 19, 1947, in Escanaba, the son of Peter and Jane (Larson) Bruntjens. Mike was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Mike kept busy working for Packerland Packing, Harnischfeger, and then EMP. He also owned his own business, Mike’s Mobile Home Repair. Mike then worked as the maintenance director of Gladstone High School until his retirement. Mike was united in marriage to Sharon Bruntjens on September 14, 1968 and they spent many years together until her passing on February 11, 1999. On August 18, 2001, Mike married the former Marilyn LaCrosse and they shared 21 wonderful years.

 

Mike was very involved in the community. He was a part of the National Guard, Delta County Drain Commissioner, All Saints Catholic Church usher, member of the Knights of Columbus, Gladstone American Legion Post 71 past Commander, and even the Commander of the Legion’s Fifth Zone. He also was the Gladstone wrestling coach and girls track coach for many years.

 

Mike enjoyed going to the cottage to hunt, visiting the lake, and taking care of his yard. He loved to putz around. He also liked going to the casino in his later years, vacationing in Florida, and traveling to spend time with his friends from the Vietnam War Company A 36th Engineers Group. He also was an avid western watcher. He will be truly missed by so many.

 

Mike is survived by his wife, Marilyn, children; Rhonda (Timothy) Gobert, Troy (Amy) Bruntjens, Rachell (Jason) Lippens, Heath (Kylie) Beckstrom, Tyler (Janell) Beckstrom, and Lukas (Kristi) Beckstrom, grandchildren; Raymond, Shaylyn, and Matthew Gobert, Emily, Joshua, and Ella Bruntjens, Sophia, Josephine, and Peter Lippens, and Odin, Yul, and Natalie Beckstrom, great grandchildren; Kayden and Kobe Gobert, and Lilly Quick. He is also survived by siblings Marie (Jim) Jackovich and Patrick (Cindy) Bruntjens, sister-in-law Karen Bruntjens, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Mike was preceded in death by his late wife, Sharon, his parents, Peter and Jane, and his brother Ronald Bruntjens.

 

Family will receive friends on Friday, June 30 from 10:45 AM to 12:45 PM at Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military honors will be presented following visitation at 12:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow military honors at 1:30 PM at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Brandon Yanni officiating. A luncheon will be held after mass at the Gladstone American Legion Hall.

    Mike was a gentle giant. He and I had some epic wrestling battles over the years when he was the head coach at Gladstone. He had such a wonderful disposition. Always smiling, easy to talk to and someone I really liked and respected. Gladstone has a terrific wrestling program and it is because of people like Mike Bruntjens.

    I have known Mike for a lot of years! He was my parents neighbor for many years! We were in the Gladstone Jaycees and active in the Gladstone American Legion! He will be missed! Prayers are being sent to Mikes family!

    I’m so sorry Rachell to hear about your Dad. He was my summer boss at the school for so many years and a wonderful man to work for. He will be missed by many.

    Mike was a teammate on our Braves football team. Always a tough football player and better yet, a very good guy to be around. Condolences to his family, he will be missed. God Bless you all.

    I’m so sorry to hear about Mr. Bruntjens. He was such a nice man and I enjoyed having him as a coach way back in middle school. I won’t forget him.

    Mike was always there to lend a hand, always in good humor, and a pleasure to work with at GHS. He was involved in the activities he loved and took time for others. Well-done Mike; you were loved and appreciated and will be missed.

    My sincere condolences to the Bruntjens fam ily. Mike was my summer boss also. I didn’t realize he was that sick. He put up with alot of crap from his crews. But he was very wonderful.
